Shirley Lovelace Williams8/24/2014

Such a nice tribute to Denise's Mom in Saturday's Commercial.

Jimmy Glenn Burk8/24/2014

Jeanette Heinz Wood, 78, was born in 1936 in Memphis TN to Ras and Charlene Heinz. She was a daddy’s girl from the start, a handful by all accounts, full of fun, mischief, and daring. Although she lived all over Memphis, she always loved the stability of her grandmothers’ homes—filled with family and lots of cousins. Jeannie married her Treadwell High School sweetheart, Don, and began a life building a home and raising their four children. She was the best mom, never failing to be the room mother, the pack mom, work the concession stands or even whip up the post prom breakfast. She showed unvarnished pride at her family’s small achievements, loving reproach for their failings, and an unbelievable ability to always know when one needed that extra attention day—home from school with Mom. We’ll never know all the secrets of life’s embarrassing moments that she carried. Don and Jeannie moved to Birmingham and made wonderful friendships and continued to enjoy the lives of their family. When the snarky, smart mouth teen years of her kids gave way to college, Jeannie returned to work to help with tuition. She excelled at her job at Farmer’s Home administration, even winning Federal Employee of the Year. They moved to Brentwood, Tennessee and fell in love with the laid back, country music lifestyle. Jeanette got such a kick out of meeting stars at work or out shopping or dining. When Don retired from BellSouth, they loved to travel together. While mostly including a loop to see family, they loved to take the scenic routes and explore new cities, histories, and cuisines. But Jeanette found her calling with her 10 grandchildren. There was no event too small or reason too silly to miss time with her grandchildren. She never lost the joy every visit with them brought. Don and Jeanette moved to Rosemark, TN six years ago to enjoy country living and be close to their daughter. Although in declining health, she never met a stranger and always showed gratitude and appreciation for the little things in her life. Jeanette is predeceased by her parents and her beloved sister Christy Heinz White. She is survived by her husband of more than 58 years Don Wood. She is also survived by her four children Denise Wood of Memphis, Bill (Teresa) Wood of Vestavia, AL, Mike (Patricia) Wood of Marietta, GA, and Kim Nourse of Madison, AL. Her devoted grandchildren are Ross (Andie) Nourse of Huntsville, AL, Autumn Nourse (Scott) Harris of Gainesville, FL, Eric Wood of Birmingham, AL, Brian, Kevin, and Christian Wood of Tuscaloosa, Al, Alexander Wood of Marietta, GA, Matthew Nourse of Madison, AL, and David and Anna Wood of Vestavia, AL. Arrangements are for visitation at Memorial Park Funeral Home and Cemetery on Sunday, August 24th at 1 p.m. with a service to follow at 2 p.m. The burial service will be private.Condolences may be offered at www.MemorialParkOnline.com - See more at: http://www.legacy.com/obituaries/commercialappeal/obituary.aspx?n=jeanette-heinz-wood&pid=172216297&fhid=3693#sthash.pvOFYM3b.dpuf

Question: Has anyone at FedEx ever done anything for your family that was special? tours, support, cards, recognition etc

Jimmy Glenn Burk8/27/2014

Two things come to mind. First, my youngest son when he was eleven sent a letter to Alan McArtor as part of a school project and he sent him a very nice letter back. Secondly when he was about 17 he was President of the Computer Club and asked for a tour for the group thru the GOCC. They were great and proud to show off their technology and talk about their careers.

Subject: Happy Birthday, today, to Bruce Lindow

Jimmy Glenn Burk9/8/2014

Happy Birthday, today, to Bruce LindowBruce did many unique things at Fedex. when the original supertrackers had continuous field issues, Bruce determined that the batteries were being overcharged causing them not to hold a charge. his group designed a battery hospital to charge correctly, and came up with 30 other improvements. when the supertracker ran out of memory for new apps, bruce, at home, built an interface to add flash memory which was added to all the trackers. when the vendor stopped production of the st's to force fedex to buy their new device which had less capability than the st, at a higher cost, Bruces dept reverse engineered the device, added a laser scanner and other new features and had 65,000 new ones built, they did the same thing for the DADS terminal. the vendor decided to force fedex to purchase new dads terminals and stop production of the current terminal and charge fedex $3600 per device vs $2000; plus the new terminals wouldnt work on our network. Again they reverse engineered the device and fedex had a huntsville manufacturer build 40,000 terminals at $600 each. and he and his dept accomplished many other things but my fingers are getting tired typing on this iphone from the Grand Canyon area.

Jimmy Glenn Burk9/9/2014

from Elizabeth Ward Blaylock: Bruce's staff was wonderful, talented and a lot of fun to work with. A few included Phil Smith, Lyle Ogle, Nancy Hinds, Clark Hinds, George Moore, Richard Dunn, Chris Naugle, Steve Clark, David Carlile, Sandy McCall, Tom Wainscott and many more that I'm hoping will be named by those on this list. Happy Birthday Bruce Lindow.

Bruce Lindow9/10/2014

Yes, I could add quite a few names, but I would feel bad 5 minutes later because I would remember more that I didn't list I am not talking about just people in my group, but equally important, people from other areas that were a vital part of making these projects successful.

Irene Williams9/11/2014

What a trip down memory lane (except for Tom Medllin's org). It was a time when you could call any of these folks direct, by their first name, and they knew you back. Life goes on and it is good.

Jimmy Glenn Burk9/11/2014

Ruth's name is now listed as Ruth Graves in the Retiree Club directory.

Jimmy Glenn Burk9/12/2014

History note: The organization charts above were a year or two after the Zapmail program was ended. Jim Moore was originally in Telecom but was transferred to Sat Systems to oversee a dish rollout. Jim McKinney & Jim Colson were transferred, with Jim Moore, to Winn's org as FedEx sought to place the thousands of people in positions. Two other directors transferred were Ray Grantham(who went to vehicle mx) and Jim Whitworth(transferred to SIS under Harry Dalton). Randy Roy retired and is a professor of Masters Degree programs at Arkansas State in Fayetteville. Jim Moore started his own wireless business, sold that company and works as a principal in it, in San Diego. Jim McKinney soon afterwards became the SVP over Air Ops. Jim McKinney, Jim Colson, and Jim Whitworth have unfortunately passed away.

I have no idea if Gary can spell or write well,,,,but I can attest that he was a great hitter. I played on teams against him, many times. There was a telephone pole in right center field at Georgian Hills school. Gary seemed to regularly try to aim for that pole in many home runs I saw him hit.
