Once we hit 65, are there any FedEx benefits for retirees, or is it just straight MediCare ??

Dan Elliot11/5/2015

I just got a letter and it basically said all fedex benefits end at your 65 birthday...

Laura Ladd Beard11/3/2015

Did the deductibles increase?

Marsha Terry Rider11/4/2015

OR, If you were a FedEx-married only the spouse that had the primary coverage can access the site. In my case that WASN'T me. So I have never had access. Want to know the reason? The system can't handle an employee as the key record and as a beneficiary of another. Sucks. Has anyone received the enrollment packet yet?

Deby Abbott Jolley11/4/2015

I copied off and posted (as a pdf) the 2016 Medical Options I could view on the ehr site. If anyone needs to check that out: https://www.facebook.com/groups/508047782547851/1353787854640502/

Phil Pickens11/3/2015

With the constant increases in the annual cost of medical healthcare insurance everyone is looking for ways to make the increase easier to absorb. You may want to consider dropping the dental and vision coverage and look at other ways to reduce the cost of dental and vision. Total costs for Dental and Vision for 2016 is 1788.00 per year for retiree and spouse. Our dental plan covers general cleaning but beyond that there is 100.00 deductible plus percentage coverage at in network costs, max benefit is 2000.00 per year, so if your dentist is out of network it will cost even more.Cigna and Aetna (as well as other companies) offer discount cards for in network coverage but not out of network coverage for dental care. These discount plans cost between 100.00 and 200.00 per year for individual and family coverage. The discounts range 15% to 60% depending on the procedure. As for vision it would be wise to look at stores like Costco, Sam's Clubs, Walmart and other large discount stores. I was in Costco last week and looked at their frames, most of their frames costs between 39.00 and 59.00 plus all their lens are discounted also. I was talking to one of their opticians and told him I usually spend around 200.00 for glasses using my Davis Vision, he said no way there. Considering the costs for the annual premium for 2016 is 468.00, I see a big savings by dropping vision.

Danielle Harnisch11/3/2015

Great ideas ! I think my dentist has always been out of network

Richard Maingault11/3/2015

I dropped dental and vision years ago. I had been taking good care of my death, so I did not have any expensive issues. Saved over time. I bought the Dental Discount plan and it works well. 180.00 for two and on most of my dental work I have saved 60%. Highly recommend the dental discount plan.

from Bill Bahr: Started in Feb 1973 as employee 256. Was a recruiter / HR geek who hired lots of FedEx's new city managers and some Memphis team members, including Tommy Bullion! Great times.

Jimmy Glenn Burk11/5/2015

Bill Bahr family: My friend Tommy Bullion turned me on to this FedEx Legends website and I'd like to ask you to add my info when you have the time. I had just turned 22 years old and was hired by H. Gene Anderson while FedEx still had its Little Rock Airmotive location in late Jan / early Feb of 1973, just prior to FedEx's move from Little Rock to Memphis. I was employee 256 and spent the vast majority of 1973 on the road, interviewing / recruiting staff (city managers, sales people, drivers, etc.) in places like Rochester, Newark, St. Louis, LA, etc. In 1973 I also convinced Tommy to come in for an interview, and the rest is history. In 1974 I was also ask to help with recruiting / staffing up the Memphis operations, hiring mechanics, admins, Hub staff, etc. but still traveled extensively as well to help with the ramp up of the first 25 cities. I left FedEx in August 1974 for what I thought was a better opportunity overseas, but that deal fell through. I was actually planning to return to FedEx until I met my sweet wife and decided that Houston was a better place for me to be. 39 years later we are still in love and still in Houston, so it did really turn out to be a better deal !! I've attached a photo of me, my wife and our 5 kids. I am still working as an HR consultant, and also have my own offshore charter fishing business. -- Bill Bahr

Chris Jones11/10/2015

Is there something online?

Carol Gassaway Kabakoff11/10/2015

Yes. If you go to the benefits site click on educate me on the right. At the very end of that page in small print there is a pre65 retiree guide. Click on it. It's in the last sentence. It's a 48 page PDF

Ann Masters11/12/2015

And if you click on i think it is "benefits summary 2016" you get to see how much your premium has gone up. Mine is $66 a month again........

Jimmy Glenn Burk11/10/2015

Received my packet in today's mail.

Jimmy Glenn Burk11/10/2015

Just read thru my packet. My wife and I will only be on the FedEx plan for 3 months next year, so we are downgrading to Consumer Choice. Saves us $481 a month. Now to decide if it is worth it to get dental and vision care.

Laura Ladd Beard11/10/2015

fyi...Jimmy Glenn Burk. roy has used delta dental for two years it's about $37 a month. the coverage is similar to the fedex plan and there has never been an issue. he also uses the vision service plan (i think is the name of it) and no issues there either.

Jimmy Glenn Burk11/10/2015

Thanks Laura, I'll check it out.

Jimmy Glenn Burk11/10/2015

a. After the last Iraq war, U.S. airlines were not allowed to fly into Iraq to deliver packages. How did FedEx get packages into that country for the military? U.S. Airlines weren't allowed to fly into the country but foreign airlines could. The freight was transferred to Russian and other private companies who could legally land there. b. FedEx could get shipments into countries for the military in days, while it took the military weeks and months. What was the military doing which caused so many delays? They would ship each order on a pallet...and the planes didn't leave until there were enough pallets on the cargo jet....thus delays c. In the 1st Iraq war, the Telecom department got a call from Jim Barksdale to fix something in Saudi Arabia. What did he want fixed? a teletype used by the military d. In both the 1st and 2nd Iraq wars, what did FedEx do to help U.S. efforts in any way they could? FedEx like other airlines provide aircraft to the military by contract. They are part of CRAF(Civil Reserve Air Fleet) FedEx took every aircraft it could and positioned them so that the military could used them asap. Even on weekends, international aircraft would be flown to staging areas for and requested use by the military.

Jimmy Glenn Burk11/13/2015

Medicare Planning Info...just for you who are still to go on Medicare...My wife goes on Medicare one month earlier than me, on March 1st. About 4 months before her 65th birthday she received her Medicare card, and was automatically signed up for Part A and Part B because she is taking Social Security checks. On the back of the card and information page, there is an opt out card to fill out if you don't want to take Part B (you wouldn't take and pay for Part B if you are still being covered by some other insurance). The information packet said that the premiums for part B would be deducted from the social security check. If there weren't enough funds to cover the payments, you would get a bill every 3 months.I signed us both up for an account on www.medicare.oneexchange.com to start looking at available supplement/medigap policies and drug plans. I wasn't able to access anything for her or me, looks like maybe you have to do this 3 months before your birthday.

Jane Meredith Robbins11/16/2015

For anyone who does not know, FedEx uses OneExchange to administer the Health Reimbursement Arrangement for reitrees and their spouse if they are enrolled in a Fedex Retiree plan at the time they become eligible for Medicare. FedEx contributes $1,020 per year to your account. That's $1.020 each. You can use it to pay for medical expenses not covered by Medicare or for a Medicare Supplement.

Jimmy Glenn Burk11/17/2015

I'm about 4 months out from Medicare, but wanted to know how you get the $85/month? Can you have it auto deposited to your checking account, or do you have to request it each month?

Jane Meredith Robbins11/17/2015

Jimmy I'm not real clear on the reimbursement rules. I'll look into it. My hub is enrolled but we've never used it. He's still employed.

a Funny Ted Weise once asked his admin to call my admin and ask how did I want to be addressed in meetings.... Mr. Burk or Doctor Burk...... I had been doing monthly updates on strategic projects(Laser Scanning, Enhanced SuperTracker, MSDS, Purple Lites, 2D barcodes etc) to the Z Committee, and FWS had addressed me a couple times as Dr. Burk............ I had been an associate professor for a couple years at CBU...and he was just humorously teasing me. YZ took it serious and wanted to address me correctly.... Subject: Medicare tidbits

Jimmy Glenn Burk11/24/2015

Medicare tidbitsA college friend pointed out this tidbit about anyone whose spouse is older and gets to 65 before them, and spouse didn't earn enough credits to get their own social security. The spouse, although 65, cannot get medicare until the younger wage earner spouse reaches age 62. Can't sign them up for part a or part b. The spouse could get part A but would have to pay for it, and it is $400-500 a month, I think.I did get my OneExchange booklet today, for my wife. It doesn't give info on how to get the $85/month but said we would get that info later.

Peter Dangerfield11/24/2015

Heads up on the $85 / mo you have to sign up twice for it in 120 days or loose it. I signed up with FDX but not CIGNA so I'm out of luck. Complained about it but no forgiveness.

Don Rose11/24/2015

Pete, I didn't find out about the $85 until a month ago. They told me I was SOL because of the 120 days. I was unaware it was even available until recently. They said it was spelled out in the benefits book. I told them I had not received nor seen a benefits book since I retired. Bottom line...SOL!

Peter Dangerfield11/24/2015

Don I think they hide it on purpose! 😬 I received so much material before and after the buyout I missed reading that step. When I complained to Benefits they opened a case but gave no forgiveness even though they agreed I had signed up with FDX in time. Sad it's double jeopardy. I also ran into mind blowing incompetence with my wife and sons Medical renewal, must have made twenty phone calls between FDX and CIGNA to get a card issued it took over three months to correct.

Debora Williams Waller11/24/2015

I wish you cauld have made it to the Retiress Club Benefits Fair or Pre 65 Medical Seminar that were hel recently to voice your concerns.

Peter Dangerfield11/24/2015

Me too Debora, I'm living at Pickwick a two hour drive away. Hope to make a meeting soon. I have given Benefits my concern and they reviewed my case but did nothing to correct the problem. We have to realize we are somewhat dead to FDX now!

Jimmy Glenn Burk11/24/2015

Pete, why do you have to also sign up with cigna? was that your supplement provider?

Patricia Ross11/24/2015

I turned 65 in September and still trying to get the $85.00 for this year. Made several phone calls to one exchange and received a letter about 3 weeks ago saying there was $ in my account for this calendar year. I recently sent in a recurring reimbursement form along with copy of Medicare letter to prove how much I pay every month. Will follow up with 1 exchange next week. I think the process is made intentionally difficult so folks will give up trying to get the funds.
