Thank God and my hubby we didn't have to mess with anything but TRICARE until 65, then Medicare A&B with TRICARE for life for supplemental. Thank you Commander Carrozza!

Jill Drysdale-Taylor11/24/2015

The $85 can deposited to your account directly be OneExchange.com

Patricia Ross11/24/2015

Jill Drysdale-Taylor - I tried thru the online process. Because I did not sign up for my supplemental thru one exchange the online response from one exchange is that I don't have any plans established.

Peter Dangerfield11/24/2015

Jimmy no I was with Medicare. Good point I did this over two years ago and not sure. I was over 65 when I retired and the $85 per month (made in one payment) is to buy a supplement to Medicare or use for other approved expenses. My wife will be able to collect it next year when she turns 65 and goes on Medicare as long as we do it in time. I'm sure One Exchange will now be in the loop somewhere. I agree with Patricia it is made overly difficult and not a lot of empathy. I had managers apologizing and said they would fix the problem I describe above but it took too many tries to get both FDX and CIGNA files to agree. The height of incompetence was we were getting rejected at Walgreens for medication all one day while we both kept calling FDX and CIGNA only to give up go home and find the new card in the mail, returned to Walgreens and got the drugs only after being told twenty minutes before we weren't covered. 😬

I think if you can show proof of coverage for the older spouse, the penalty is waived.

Debora Williams Waller11/24/2015

If the spouse was cover under your medical plan at time of retirement they are eligible for the $85 HRA. But there is the 120 day notification deadline.

FedEx Retiree PollFrom a friend, who is retiring early next year, I was asked "How did you transition from working every day and that being the center of your life, to retiring...did you have enough to do? how did you adapt?"How did you handle the transition?

Buddy Johnson12/4/2015

I missed the daily interaction with work family. (And, it was family). At first, there were some gaps in the days but found things to fill in and migrated to a new set of activities, including a p/t job working at one of our country clubs on the golf course. Still 'salute' the FedEx trucks delivering in the area. Merry Christmas to all my FedEx family!!

Roger Yannett Sr12/4/2015

I too thought, what would I do to fill up my time. Well how wrong I was. I can't believe how busy Carolyn and I are. I need a job so I can get some rest.

Liz Ciulla Carrozza12/4/2015

Slept until 10-noon for several weeks to catch up, then started to gym several times a week, joined a writer's group, and before long couldn't figure out how I ever had time to work! Busy, fun, traveling, grandkids, volunteering..,

Tonya Handwerker12/4/2015

I found a pt Job with a real estate firm in an administrative capacity. I choose how much I want to work. So I still have time to be an awesome Mimi and do all the things I overlooked when I worked full time. Also an aging parent takes up a lot of time. However I am forever grateful for my pension check. Most don't have one and I realize one smart thing I did was stay with Fedex till the end. Love my Fedex family so much. And am grateful to those still working the line.

Tonya Handwerker12/4/2015

Oh and I do the wake up at 10a still !!

Official Radio Day - celebration by the Radio Group - that began the great Nonconnah Creek Parties - October 4 - not sure what year that started...Demos, prizes, food, cleaning the girls jewlery in the ultra sonic cleaner in the radio shop... The Radio Gang could throw a party

Dickie Dunn12/7/2015

It was 1984, we were in one of those Friday afternoon meetings with Mason Kaufman of Dispatch Management Systems to review the upcoming DADS rollout. Going through the schedule, along came “El Paso, 10/4”. Somehow we talked it up to be the Official Radio Day… 10-4 is the most used “10” signal in radio talk meaning okay or Roger that.

Not a October 4th goes by that I don't think of some of those 10-4 parties. Those years at Nonconnah were very special.

Ben Moore12/7/2015

10/4/82 was the original day scheduled for the ACP to IMS migration. It was backed off and implemented on 10/18/82.

Peggy Dawson Black12/7/2015

Buddy Johnson12/7/2015

DHJ

Jimmy Glenn Burk12/10/2015

It was actually Dennis Jones at the time. Supposedly he convinced FWS that Zapmail was going to take too large and a sustained investment to reach a profit, and with the Challenger destruction, that contributed to the shutdown.

Sad news this morning. Mary Ellzey Vaiden passed away this morning after fighting colon cancer. Her daughter Meaghan Vaiden Ashe posted just yesterday that she was seriously ill. Many of you might have worked with her at FedEx over the years. Many of you might know her from Sacred Heart High School in Memphis, Class of '70.

Jimmy Glenn Burk12/9/2015

Jim Tollefson & Dave Dalton were the correct answers, two fine people to work with

David Warren12/11/2015

Knew both very well..........

Jimmy Glenn Burk12/12/2015

Just an observation, for history note: Both Dave & Jim were strong advocates that we didn't need to go the Unix/C smaller server route, almost everything could and should be done on the mainframe. They were somewhat vocal opponents to the DHJ direction to have alternative platforms, not just the IBM mainframe. JET was also vocal against deploying customer automation with applications at the customer location. He pushed to use dumb terminals that dialed into the mainframe with all apps on the mainframe. They were missed, when they departed.

FedEx Trivia What was COSMOS Squared?

Roger Yannett Sr12/9/2015

I think it was the project name for moving air bill tracking and tracing off of the mainframe

Jimmy Glenn Burk12/10/2015

Cosmos squared was the system which was to follow COSMOS. COSMOS provided Customer Service, Dispatch, and Tracking of Packages. COSMOS Squared would provide proactive tracking. Using all the scans including CONS, this app would determine where the package was and was it on the correct route to schedule to get to the destination. If not, it would alert OPS to potential service failures. I think it mostly faded as JET departed, and Chronos took such a large part of the IT budget.

FedEx Tidbit from Ben Moore:What was Railway Express Agency and why were they important to Federal Express? They were the red delivery trucks that operated as part of the railroads. They went out of business in 1975 and FWS bought their legal entity. This gave the new Federal Express the right to operate under the Railway Labor Act and the license to operate in many venues.....

J. David White12/14/2015

When I worked part-time 1969-71 at NAPA Genuine Parts Distribution Center while a student at Memphis State, I used to wrap & prepare shipments of parts to send on Railway Express, Film Transit, and Greyhound Bus, which all were fore-runners of the FedEx delivery system. Then I was hired in Dec. 1983 at FedEx and fortunate to begin a great career until my retirement in June 2014.

Deby Abbott Jolley12/14/2015

I'm guessing. Did Railway Express Agency set the precedent that allowed Federal Express to be covered by the Railway Labor Act?

Jimmy Glenn Burk12/14/2015

I had the same type job thru college, but at Motor Parts South off of Union, using the same shippers

Pat Woodruff Gunter12/14/2015

Wow. That was a big deal!!

Jon Peacock12/14/2015

Before I joined Federal Express in September 1977, I was the warehouse shipping & receiving clerk at Beck-Arnely - Parts for Imported Cars. I shipped mostly with Film Transit, Greyhound Bus, Yellow and Bowman Truck Lines. It was rare to receive something on Federal Express.
