Also early 80's was one at Summit Club hosted by Jim Barksdale.

Akita Hank12/16/2015

My favorite too, it was the first year the Peabody was reopened.

Gary Phillips12/16/2015

Peabody reopened in '81 I think.

Thought this was a funny site while riding my bike. UPS delivery guy driving golf cart and trailer delivering packages north of Hwy 98 all the way to the bay outside Sandestin. Said he is working about 35-75 stops and 150-600 packages. A driver drops off a container behind the UPS store and he works until it empty

Which island?

Jimmy Glenn Burk12/16/2015

The main island & probably several of the smaller ones

Buddy Johnson12/17/2015

Haleakala Crater is a must...on Maui. Winding two-lane road to the top. Exquisite views. Some plants along the way that only exist on that island and only at a certain elevation. Believe you can see the twin peaks on the 'big island' from top of Haleakala.

Subject: FedEx Retiree Poll

Jimmy Glenn Burk12/17/2015

FedEx Retiree Polla. Are there things you did to reduce expenses or save money in retirement? b. Are there things you spend more money on now, in retirement?

Jimmy Glenn Burk12/17/2015

Some things Jimmy did: 1. home phone for $2/month we use our cell phones most of the time, but needed a home line to open the gate in our community. I didn't want to pay $36/month for at&t home line. I bought an OBI100 for $45, plugged into my home phone, and internet router. Then set up an account on Anveo for $2 a month. Now I have a home line. If internet is down, it emails voice messages to you. So, when I go on vacation, I just unplug it, and get my phone voice mails automatically 2. Cable I decided to get off cable; so ordered Netflix & Amazon Prime for streaming services for $17/month total. Then I called to cancel my cable..but they dropped the price $30/month for a year, then did it again, so I'll keep it a while. 3. Food Spend more money eating out...but trying hard to eat healthy. 4. Discounts Using Senior discounts more often, just have to find them.

Gary Phillips12/17/2015

1. Spend less in gas. Fewer miles on the car. 2. Eat out more.

Dawn Taylor Bush12/17/2015

No cuts ... Spending hubby's money. 🤑😏😁

John Wilkinson12/18/2015

2. Insurance.....medical, dental, and life.

Wade Waldrup12/19/2015

A. Quit spending money on useless, irrelevant material stuff that doesn't really matter. B. What's the point in reducing spending if all you do is spend it on something else? Net = 0.

David Warren12/20/2015

A. No house notes, no car notes, I like Jimmy's cable approach. B. Paying it forward, making life better for nieces, nephews, etc.

Sandy Butler Stone1/6/2016

1. Cancelled DIrectv, tried 4 types of antenna but failed. Ended up going with cable but ended up saving $$ even with my internet included. 2. Paid car off 3. Have my own business so I've spent money getting it established. I am be in the black this year. Yay

Lela Smith1/6/2016

Spend less money on clothes and shoes. As now I just have 2 types of dress, cute and play instead of 3 work, cute, and play! More money on vacation because I am always planning my next one !!

Tommy Johnson12/21/2015

Apparently FedEx does not ship to IRS anymore. I have tried for 2 years to send my taxes by FedEx and haven't been able to find an address. I just called Customer Service and they said FedEx doesn't provide that service because you can only send to a P.O. Box I find this strange. Any ideas?

Buddy Johnson12/21/2015

FedEx has never delivered to PO boxes.

Tommy Johnson12/21/2015

That is correct. A few years ago fedex had addresses 2 send taxes 2. It was an address that had IRS and a city state and zip with no street name. I used 2 send mine in that way.

Melissa Leech Ziemer12/21/2015

There are several different IRS physical addresses. I believe the main one is in Austin.

Tommy Johnson12/21/2015

Thanks everyone. It Looks like the Post office it is. I just hate to send anything by anything but FedEx. I guess sometimes you just have to. FedEx must have stopped the service to send to IRS by FedEx.

Melissa Leech Ziemer12/21/2015

Tommy, I just posted the IRS address to send via FedEx.

Melissa Leech Ziemer12/21/2015

The address to Fedex your tax return is 3651 S. IH 35, Austin, TX 78741. That's the address Service Agents were given to provide to our customers. It's the address I've used for years to send in my tax returns. Google the address if you want.

Tommy Johnson12/21/2015

Fantastic. Thank you so much. You are Great!

Tommy Johnson12/21/2015

I will have to give this out to everyone I know so they can use FedEx. I want to keep FedEx afloat so I can get my retirement check.

Laura Ladd Beard12/21/2015

We always fedex ours and believe it is to Austin address. You can find it on the IRS website

Tommy Johnson12/21/2015

Thanks. Mellisa had it. I looked on the IRS website and all I could find was PO boxes. I guess I am not too good at finding things on the IRS website.

Gary Owens12/22/2015

Got a question. The Fed Ex Memphis hub address is Sprankel. Any idea where that name came from?

Clayton Roderick12/22/2015

Sprankel The swelling in your ankle after you sprain it. I sprained my ankle during basketball, now I have a sprankel.

Peter Dangerfield12/22/2015

Sprankel used to run from Tchulahoma to in front of the three hangers to the National Guard. There used to be a cemetery near where the DC 10 hangar is and ramp area. We also had a gas station and the Flight Simulator / Falcon museum on Sprankel Ave. So it was the street address for all of the above and Hub. Ps the cemetery was moved before we built over it.

Jane Meredith Robbins12/31/2015

Sprankel was where the gas pumps were. Employees could buy gas at FedEx.

Who is flying A340s into MEM? I've seen them several times this week. They're white with a red stripe from nose to tail.

Ben Moore12/25/2015

Clayton Roderick YES! Whose was that?

Clayton Roderick12/25/2015

SriLankan Airlines

Ben Moore12/25/2015

Why would they be coming into Memphis? Is FedEx leasing from them? I couldn't tell if the ones I saw had red tails though.

Clayton Roderick12/26/2015

Chip Cooper-Williamson12/28/2015

Atlas Air. FedEx is leasing 5 aircraft and flight crew thru January. Heard from a 777 pilot

Ben Moore12/28/2015

Atlas Air's livery is way different than the planes I've seen. Could be ... Looks like FedEx was wet leasing 747s from Atlas Air. http://fdx.alpa.org/Home/Content/ContentView/tabid/3125/ArticleId/8209/2015-Peak-Wet-Leases-11-5-15.aspx What I saw weren't 747s.

Jimmy Glenn Burk12/28/2015

Do any retirees have the VSP Choice or Signature Vision Plans? and where do you buy them. OneExchange seems to have the Choice plan on their site

Laura Ladd Beard12/28/2015

Roy has VSP. I think he got it through one exchange when turned 65 two years ago. It's about $170 a year. He has used it for annual checkups and glasses. Seems to be an ok plan.

Dan Elliot12/29/2015

Doesn't medicare pay for check ups?

Jimmy Glenn Burk12/29/2015

i think only for diabetics

Laura Ladd Beard12/29/2015

I think Medicare would pay only if there are physical issues effecting your eyes. Not for your typical annual checkup

Pat Woodruff Gunter12/29/2015

Right diabetics

Charlotte Benton Hieronymus12/31/2015

Medicare pays...my husband only pays a $25 copay for his checkup each year. Haven't had to fill a prescription so not sure what or if they pay anything on that.

Charlotte Benton Hieronymus1/1/2016

And, he doesn't have diabetes!

Jimmy Glenn Burk1/1/2016

"Original Medicare, Part A and Part B, does not generally cover routine eye exams for eyeglasses or contact lenses. However, Medicare Part B will cover an annual eye exam every 12 months if you have diabetes or are at high risk for glaucoma."

Charlotte Benton Hieronymus1/1/2016

Jimmy...my husband has been on Medicare for 3 years and all he has paid for his routine eye exam is $25. He does not have diabetes nor is he high risk for glaucoma. If what you say is true then I'm not sure how all he has paid is $25.

Jimmy Glenn Burk1/1/2016

It's great he is getting it covered. I checked with my sister who works for an Optometrist and works with the insurance companies and she relayed that they only get reimbursed from Medicare if you have diabetes or are high risk. I think she also said there is a $25 copay for the test, otherwise they don't get re-imbursed thru medicare.

Charlotte Benton Hieronymus1/1/2016

I agree it is great. He pays $25 for a copay but it is for the entire exam...not just for a test.

Ben Moore12/29/2015

YZ was a runner, wasn't he?

Peggy Dawson Black12/30/2015

Harry Dalton - fly fishing

Jimmy Glenn Burk12/30/2015

Peggy is correct about Harry's Passion A Harry story..... Harry could be blunt, very blunt...and very funny at the same time. When large customers were visiting Corporate many times Harry & I would be there to give presentations on various things. On one occasion the company was hosting a lunch for a large Fishing supply company. I gave a presentation on DADS and Harry on COSMOS IIb. When Harry finished his presentation he said something like.... "Personally I want to state that you are a great company with great products and I use you all the time. "But....I have to say...you did one of the most Stupid things possible when you discontinued the fly fishing bag model BR549 ...it was a great bag, and you replaced it with something inferior.....but I still love your company. " so in a few words Harry said they were both Great...and Stupid They took it well. The next day or so, Harry received a FedEx delivery which contained the praised fly fishing bag that had been discontinued...they found one and FedEx'd it to him.

Jimmy Glenn Burk12/31/2015

I am still researching Medicare supplement, dental, drug & vision options for my wife Stephanie who goes off FedEx Insurance a month before I do. Just made these notes to share, still not thru investigating but hopefully by end of next week it will be over. If you have other tidbits just post.-------------- Dental: There are about 4 dental plans offered thru OneExchange online. I believe they can offer other plans if you ask. They range in price from about $18 to $49 per month. Our dentist said they would take any insurance, but several are difficult to work with, and some have longer waiting periods before you can do anything but a cleaning. Some have you wait 6 months, some a year. Most of the dental plans pay out a max of $1,000 a year, and there were some that paid a max of $1500.There is a benefit from having a plan in that some of the crowns and other work are 'written down'. A $1200 crown might be $ 1075 base price with insurance.Delta Dental & Delta Dental Premier were mentioned as ones that are easy to work with, with Metlife following them. There are plans out there that are a type of HMO and many dentists won't take that insurance, so you need to check if your dentist is In Network.Vision:There is one plan in OneExchange(in Tennessee) that is offered which is VSP Choice Plan for $168 a year. Which gets you an eye exam and a pair of glasses. The Optomerist said that there is a VSP Premier Plan which is better, which I am researching. Also, if you are diabetic, you get a full eye exam once a year on Medicare versus a separate Vision insurance Plan. The vision insurance doesn't have to be purchased like medicare supplements once a year. If you've had your exam and got your glasses, you can wait and sign up later for that insurance. You can sign up 30 days before you need to do another eye exam. Supposedly we may be able to get private vision ins from Eye Med or even Davis vision, which I will check out.Medicare:Many doctors won't take new patients on Medicare. So be sure you have a primary doctor and any specialists you might need that you have used before. I went and got a heart check up from a specialist, because two of my brothers had heart attacks...I wanted to make sure I was on someone's patient list.Medicare Advantage: M/A is much cheaper than a supplement and can be a great benefit for those who can't or don't want to pay for a supplement. The negative is that many doctors won't take you as a patient, and you are in a type of HMO, and they choose your doctor and hospital. Yet it is much less expensive.

Jimmy Glenn Burk1/1/2016

Another tidbit from a very good friend who represents United HealthCare and AARP about a benefit of AARP Supplement Plans "Another point with AARP --- a supplement policy holder can SWITCH plans (within AARP) at any time with no health questions asked. So, for instance, someone who is paying for a Plan F maybe has a couple of financial misfortunes, and needs to go to a lower cost plan. (If you were with any other company, you'd have to submit to underwriting which could disqualify you or put you into a higher risk level and thus at a higher premium.) With ours, you just call in; tell the operator you want to switch to a lower cost plan; she asks you no questions; she just makes the switch; and your new plan takes effect at the first of the following month. Later, if you want to switch BACK to the better plan, just call in -- again --- no questions asked. "

Tommy Johnson1/1/2016

I have just started using Delta Dental. They seem easy to deal with so far. I can't offer anything on any of the other. I use the VA for medical and Vision. VA in my area is pretty good. They teamed up with the University of Alabama at Birmingham. Something that is little known about the VA is that if you are a veteran or spouse of a veteran they will pay quite a bit for in home health care of needed. They really don't advertise it but it is there. I wish I had known about this when my mother was bedridden with cancer.

FYI and Heads Up...I took the buyout 2 years ago (Dec 2013) but not old enough to be 'retired' or draw upon my retirement.I moved my 401K funds out of Vanguard to consolidate and manage together with other financial investments shortly thereafter. But still have my active Vanguard account.About 15 minutes ago, I received an email from Vanguard stating that my account had been de-activated due to exceeding the limit of login attempts.I RARELY log into this account, so SOMEONE has my information and knew I had a Vanguard account...I have taken extra measures to change my password, add the feature of not allowing other devices than my own computer, etc...but wanted to give others a heads up.Somehow, In my mind, I believe this to be information compromised from either Vanguard or Fedex...Not sure who to contact on the FedEx side since I'm not officially a retiree...any suggestions?
