Requesting some help - Researching to confirm/clarify some information regarding starting pension. I thought some of you might have knowledge of or experienced and would be willing to share: (Perhaps by Private Message) :) ("I was told" / "asking for a friend" (Joking) It was my understanding (thru several sources) that the pension could be started the first month after the birthday month of eligibility. I was then told it would be started several months later (Admin/system issues) and would be 'retroactive' and implied that the first check would be a 'lump-sum/catch-up' check and after that month the regular monthly payment would begin. So far none of this has been the case. Thanks in advance.

Jimmy Glenn Burk7/13/2017

My experience: I retired at age 56 on the last day of May. I received my final FedEx Services paycheck on May 31st, and received my first FedEx pension check dated June 1st, but it arrived several days later. 1 ·

Ron Houston7/13/2017

Ron Houston I notified them in approximately November of 2016 so that payments could begin in February of 2017 - (I turned 55 in January 2017 - I left FedEx in 2000 with 18 years) Payments started in MAY 2017. (I'm basically trying to figure out 'whahappen'. ) . . . but have not followed up yet with Retirement Admin - All of the above info in the original post was from Reitrement Admin (online and by phone). Wanted to see if I could glean some info/perspective here before circling back to them. Thanks. Edited ·

Ron Houston7/13/2017

Ron Houston There's a 3 month GAP.

Leroy Hebert7/13/2017

Leroy Hebert I just retire June 1st, got my 1st check July 1st. Got paid for June and July. 1 ·

Mary Drummond7/16/2017

Mary Drummond I left FedEx for the last time in 2012. They offered me, and several others who already left the company, an early pension buyout back around January 2017. I accepted the offer (I am almost 50) but the payments were not scheduled until May 2017. So I got my first payment May 1st. I wonder if yours got mixed up in that situation. 1 ·

Ron Houston7/16/2017

Ron Houston Mary - thanks for the info. It did indeed. I have talked to them at length since this original post. They gathered pieces of information and are researching it (Reviewing tapes/notes) The person I had previously worked with was new and of course is now no longer there. They said they would get back to me. I'll post more details after their response. Thanks again. 1 ·

Ron Houston9/5/2017

Ron Houston Wanted to update you all on this. When I spoke to Retirement Admin in November 2016 My account 'locked' this happened thru January 2017. They had new employees and they told me they were in the middle of a system change / upgrade / migration / replacement ? ? ? at any rate I could not get into the system. My intent was to start my pension as soon as possible. I told them this by phone several times. At the same time all of this was going on the 'new' option of them offering a 'lump-sum' option was being implemented - so they said 'I had to wait until May'. . . . Now they are saying that is what I entered into their system - I never had access to their system. . . . They shorted me 3-months. Their system and 'my account' where emails / confirmations are housed. . . is wiped clean. . . FYI - beware.

Cathy Wallace9/6/2017

Cathy Wallace Ron Houston they totally messed my start date up also, now it's changing from cobra to retiree ins. They're trying to make me pay full retiree cost for July ,when I had already paid cobra through the 11th 🙄

Just another reminder note from anyone wanting to join this facebook group. The group is primarily a group of FedEx ITD employees/retirees and friends to have a place to meet, but is open to those that work or have worked at FedEx. If you ask to join, make sure you are linked to friends that are currently members of the group or somewhere you show that you have worked at the company. If not, send a note to myself or Bob Higgins why you would like to join the group. We've gotten dozens of requests the past month, and the majority did not meet the above pre-requisites. Thanks.

Just wondering as to what Commercial Airlines offer FedEx discounts to Retirees and what are the Contact numbers?

Hector Vazquez7/22/2017

Hector Vazquez Freddie. I always felt the "discounts" offered to us by the airlines were a bit of a joke. You get to spend a percentage of a full coach fare, which, who pays that anymore? And fly stand by. Could be a nightmare. I fly international several times a year. I go directly to the airlines' website and have done really well with fares. Confirmed. I suggest you consider that. It's really the way to go.

Hector Vazquez7/22/2017

Hector Vazquez And, if your going domestic, try the website Skiplagged.

Shane Borden7/23/2017

Shane Borden I don't have the benefit because I'm not a retiree, but as someone who used it occasionally as an employee, I would also advise against it. The load factors are too high these days unless you are a mid week traveler. Plus the standby order for FedEx is 12th or something like that. Not many others are below that.

Armed security delivery- looked at as a possible new venture b. Custodial care for the government - FedEx did this until the 20/20 broadcast c. International Blimps-went as far as a proposal to the senior staff d. Fast ships, slow planes to compete with slower cargo ships-always being researched to open a new shipping segment e. Overnight delivery from Europe-proposed, with the Concordes that France would not agree to keep flying for at least 10 years, they were losing too much on aircraft operations; FedEx would lease the Concordes and British Air pilots would fly. g. Providing free movies to customers- thought us when FedEx was looking at putting Digital Wireless Transmission service into cities and low power UHF channels. the airwaves would be little used at night 1 ·

Dave Hansen The satellite that never made it to orbit was ExpressStar 1

Jimmy Glenn Burk8/3/2017

There were probably more but: 1. C Band Satellites that connected the 4 major call centers to transfer customer calls between centers...this did not work 2. About 16 satellite dishes that connected the major Zapmail nodes in lieu of using land line circuits 3. Project Saturn which were smaller dishes to be used to connect smaller Tandem computers into the corporate network 4. Small FXTV satellite receivers to enable video broadcasts from memphis to most field employess, and for remote training and the 5th would have been ExpressStar1 to have been built by Hughes and was the size of a bus, to be used to transmit documents directly to customer sites with small satellite dishes, bypassing terresterial circuits. Sheryl Egbert D

Jimmy Glenn Burk8/4/2017

Answers: Somewhat of a trick question, they are all true. Although maybe not corporate policy, each happened to someone I knew. a. there was an integrity or psychological test that I was told was difficult for anyone who was a police officer or clergy to pass. Questions would be asked, then same questions asked again in a twisted way. This test didn't last too long in the system. b. In a station someone who was a secretary was promoted to engineer. Requirements were changed so that to be an engineer, you had to have an engineering degree. Some of this also came about, because some states required any company who had an engineer title to back whatever policies the engineer put in written form. c. At one point HR leadership definitely wanted almost anyone to have a Bachelors degree, and masters preferred. This quickly went away, I'm sure because they couldn't fill candidates. d. I'm sure this wasn't company policy, but one lady I had worked with, interviewed for another position, and was given feedback that pulling on a necklace dictated that they wouldn't be suitable for the position. 3 ·

The Falcon had a stronger under carriage and greater speed and flight range, but required government approval to fly as an air taxi because it would be over limits set by the CAB. The Falcon would fly at 540mph with a range of 1400-2000 miles. The Gulfstream had a cruise speed of 288 mph and top speed of 340 mph. In Aug '71 FWS purchased two Falcons from Pan Am for $3.6M In Dec '71 FWS signed a purchase option from Pam Am for 23 Falcons for $29.1M In 1972 he went on the open market and purchased 8 used Falcons. To get the license you had to load the radio channel. FedEx had DADS and could use and load the channels and UPS had no applications. Many years later when UPS decided that this overnight thing was something they needed to get into...these premier channels were not available. UPS with their govt influence got the FCC to kick off some amateur users and give the spectrum to UPS. UPS was not successful in this endeavor as was FedEx. They then turned to Motorola to put the Courier devices on the ARDIS wireless network, but this was extremely expensive. They then went to a large telecom firm (McGraw) and worked a deal to utilize their cellular network to make 8 second calls to transmit pickup data. Their new CEO was Jim Barksdale. One of the major innovative things done at the company was grabbing this frequency band across the USA. Edited · 2 ·

Aug 14th update on FedExr Jim Schmiedicke, forwarded by Carl Hardeman (post is on the Germantown TN facebook bulletin board)Jim Schmiedicke A shout out to Germantown's First Responders. I'm riding my bike down a hill on a paved path, with a turn at the bottom, that I've ridden many times. I woke up on my back 20 feet into the woods; helmet ripped off and unable to move any of my limbs. Concentrated on getting my left arm to move and reach in my pocket. It took 15 minutes or so but I got it. Called 911. Helmet smashed and neck broken. Germantown First Responders were exceptional. They informed my wife while they were on the way to find me. She and my son who was nearby arrived as they were loading me on a special ambulance built to maneuver the trails. They brought me up to the road and transferred me to the big ambulance which brought me, with my wife in tow, to the trauma center at Regional One. They stayed with me until my problems were being addressed and then informed my wife of such before leaving. Germantown First Responders are terrific!

Ray Lipham If you want details on the FedEx fleet, go to https://www.planespotters.net/airline/Federal-Express-(FedEx). The site doesn't have any information on the smaller aircraft such as the Falcon, but it has data on all of the larger current and historic aircraft, including those that were stored (like those in the above photo), scrapped, or sold. I'm not sure the history is complete because they only list one Boeing 727-100 and I think FedEx had more 100s than that at one time. You could tell the difference between the 100s and 200s not just by the length but whether the intake of the middle engine was oval (100) or round (200). I ordered a generator a few days ago online and paid a lot to have it overnighted to our home before the storm. The company didn't mail ours out until over 24 hours after I ordered it, but it finally arrived in Orlando around 8am today, but was never delivered. I called the FedEx customer service number and she told me that FedEx had already suspended operations in Orlando because of Irma.... I really wasn't mad, just frustrated I had spent so much to have it shipped next day and we might not have it in time for the storm.A few minutes ago (7pm), a FedEx employee arrived at our home in his personal vehicle with several generators in his car. He said they unloaded all the generators from today's delivery trucks and were personally delivering them to customers before the storm. WOW!

Deby Abbott Jolley 4 - Gotta be Italy, right?!?

Deby Abbott Jolley10/5/2017

Deby Abbott Jolley All of those sound true to me!

Jimmy Glenn Burk 10/6/2017

Answers All are true except #6....as far as I remember....

1. Fedex once outsourced pilots and airplanes to Europe TRUE -when some pilots were threatening action, FedEx committed to contract some flights and crews to Europe. It was a binding contract, I think with Atlas. Also, FedEx looked at using passenger airlines to put South American freight on. Service levels would rise, and costs decrease since there were so many commercial flights into that continent.

2. Fedex once owned ships TRUE- FedEx had part ownership in some ships as they acquired international entities.

3. Fedex once owned a fiber optic undersea laying ship TRUE-FedEx was a licensed telecommunications carrier with its subsidiary FITC and it had a part ownership in the a company that laid fiberoptics on the ocean floor.

4. In one company couriers wore designer shoes and refused to change TRUE- and it was in Italy....

5. One country's computer system had a birds nest on top of it TRUE- also in Italy.... they had one programmer for their AS400 that came with the company FedEx purchased.

6. FedEx once owned an armed security company FALSE-although it was discussed having armed couriers, that plan never happened.

7. FedEx once owned a truck manufacturing company TRUE-We bought the company Z-Vans

8. FedEx once owned a company that launched into space TRUE- the subsidiary FedEx Spacetran which was purchased so FedEx could bid on launching Space Shuttles....which were supposed to launch every week....

9. FedEx once had an option to launch an employee on the Space Shuttle TRUE-with the booking of a future launch for the Hughes satellite for Zapmail, FedEx got one slot...which could have been an employee or possibly a Hughes tech 10. UPS most always followed FedEx in technology. Once they sent a thank you to the FedEx team for working out all the bugs in a network platform, before they used it TRUE- when FedEx installed a network of X.25 switches from Northern Telecom, we integrated all the SNA traffic into a channel attached Nortel switch and debugged it. UPS sent a thank you note via the vendor. 11. FedEx once had a company that delivered washer/dryers and appliances TRUE - In the United Kingdom ·

Dave Hansen Regarding #1, It was both Atlas and Polar Air. I remember seeing the planes at the Memphis hub for months after the pilots signed their contract.

Dany Hsch10/7/2017

You may not be thinking about your retirement yet, but we are…specifically your retiree health coverage. You may not realize that FedEx offers pre-65 retiree health coverage to eligible employees when they retire. And we are one of the few remaining companies that does so. According to The Kaiser Annual Employer Health Benefits Survey, there has been a downward trend in large employers that offer retiree health coverage, with only 24 percent still offering coverage in 2016.* We want to continue to offer retiree health coverage to current, eligible employees, but rising health care costs and the structure of the retiree health plan are making that a challenge. For the last few years, FedEx has been researching better ways to provide you access to retiree health coverage. Beginning January 1, 2018, the following changes and enhancements will be made to pre-65 retiree health benefits:· FedEx will provide a one-time Retiree Health Credit to help you pay for your retiree health coverage premiums when you meet eligibility requirements and retire.· Depending on where you live, you may have access to additional health coverage options through a private exchange.· FedEx will provide access to resources to help guide you through your retirement decisions.· In order to make the retiree health program sustainable for our current employees, retiree health coverage will be closed to new employees hired on or after January 1, 2018.These changes represent our continued commitment to offering pre-65 health care coverage to current, eligible employees when they retire. Below you’ll find more detail on these changes and some background on retiree health benefits and how FedEx has been working to preserve their value. Background on FedEx Pre-65 Retiree HealthThe FedEx Corporation Retiree Group Health Plan (FedEx Retiree Health Plan) is structured as a capped annual company subsidy, separate from the health plan for active employees. In 1993, the Financial Accounting Standards Board began requiring companies to include on their balance sheets the future liability of post-retirement health benefits for all employees, even those many years from retirement. That change created tremendous expense and liability for large employers, so many decided to eliminate retiree health coverage completely. But not FedEx. FedEx opted to maintain pre-65 retiree health benefits and placed a cap on the company’s contribution to retiree health coverage in order to limit the growth of this long-term liability and expense. In 2013, we hit the cap of $4,813 per retiree, which means annual cost increases for retiree health coverage have been paid by the retiree since then. The following graph demonstrates how FedEx has been subsidizing the cost of retiree health benefits, and how the costs for retirees continues to rise exponentially due to increasing health care costs nationwide.FedEx CostAnnual Premium CostTotal Cost of Retiree HealthCY 2013$4,813$4,748$9,561CY 2014$4,813$5,494$10,307CY 2015$4,813$5,929$10,742CY 2016$4,813$6,426$11,239CY 2017$4,813$7,587$12,400As a result of the rising cost of retiree health care and the $4,813 annual FedEx subsidy, retiree health premiums are much higher than what you pay as an active employee. Because of this, FedEx began researching better ways to provide you access to more retiree health coverage options and resources to help you better plan for retirement. These changes do not alter the value of the benefit, but allow for retirees to have flexibility to determine what is affordable and the best option for their financial and personal circumstances.Changes Beginning January 1, 2018 Outlined below are the changes to pre-65 retiree health benefits that will provide improved features and resources and – depending on where you live – access to more health coverage options.· When you meet eligibility requirements and retire, FedEx will provide a one-time Retiree Health Credit to help you pay for your retiree health coverage premiums. The credit will be placed in a Retiree Health Premium Account, and you can be reimbursed for your premiums, up to the amount in the account. The Retiree Health Credit replaces the subsidy that FedEx has provided in the past. With the credit, the financial value of the benefit is still equivalent; premiums are just paid in a different way.Your Retiree Health Credit amount will be determined based on your age when you retire, as shown in the chart below. If you cover a spouse/partner, your spouse/partner will receive a credit amount based on his/her age. If any non-spouse/partner dependents are covered, they will not receive their own credit, but your credit can be used to cover their premiums.Age at RetirementOne-Time Credit Amount Per Covered Individual*55 or less** $39,000 56 $37,000 57 $35,000 58 $33,000 59 $30,000 60 $27,000 61 $25,000 62 $22,000 63 $20,000 64 $18,000 65+ $11,000Example: If you retire at age 62 and your eligible spouse/partner is 57, you would receive a FedEx credit of $22,000 and your spouse/partner would receive a FedEx credit of $35,000.* Retiree is one “individual,” and retiree spouse/partner is a separate individual; values represent the current actuarial net present value of the current retiree medical plan design for each age.**Spouse/partner only may be younger than age 55.· Depending on where you live, you may have access to more health coverage options. In addition to the existing FedEx Retiree Group Health Plan, FedEx has teamed up with Aon to provide retirees access to the Aon Retiree Health Exchange and its partner eHealth, a private exchange that offers various health care plans to choose from, depending on where you live. An “exchange” is simply an online resource where insurance providers advertise and sell their services. Because each state regulates its own exchanges, there is no uniform model. In some markets, competition among plan providers works in your favor, and there’s a potential for better value and lower rates. This gives you the option to research various coverage options and possibly select different coverage based on your needs. And - great news - if you select health coverage through eHealth, you can use your FedEx Retiree Health Credit to reimburse your premium costs AND you will have access to an Aon health advocate if you need assistance with claims, payments, appeals, and other concerns! In some areas, there may not be many or any additional options through the Aon Retiree Health Exchange, but you will still have the option to enroll in the FedEx Retiree Health Plan and use your FedEx Retiree Health Credit to reimburse your premium costs. You may also have access to the public exchange administered by your state or the Federal Health Insurance Marketplace, where you may qualify for the annual Federal Premium Tax Subsidy. If you choose this option, you can’t use both the Retiree Health Credit and the Federal Premium Tax Subsidy in the same year. You have to choose one or the other, but you will still have access to your Retiree Health Credit the year after you stop using your Federal Premium Tax Subsidy.· FedEx will provide access to resources to help guide you through your retirement decisions.o The retirement website, retirement.fedex.com, is being enhanced, making it a more centralized site for all of your retirement planning needs including information about your retiree health coverage options, 401(k) plan and pension plan. Estimators and tools will be available beginning in 2018 to help you plan and make the important decisions about retirement.o Employees age 50 and older will have access to a Financial Coach at no charge. Financial coaches can help you weigh your options and work with you to create a plan to help you meet your goals for retirement, including health care coverage.· And finally, in order to make the retiree health program sustainable for our current employees, retiree health coverage will be closed to new employees hired on or after January 1, 2018.Next Steps Effective October 3, 2017, you can go to retirement.fedex.com to access information about retiree health benefits, if you’re eligible. You can also click here to watch a video about the changes. And don’t forget, the website will be updated in 2018 to provide more retirement planning tools and resources.Thinking of retiring in the next few months? Call the FedEx Retirement Service Center at 1.855.604.6221 for more information on what you can do now.

John Wilkinson As to whether this impacts current pre-65 retirees, I would advise you to go to the site and do some checking on your own. I did and it appears to me that although the detailed info is not yet available, the tutorial videos (at least to me) indicated that a monetary cap is being put into place that (among other changes) will impact current pre-65 retirees. 2018 healthcare enrollment starts 11/1 and ends 11/22 for the Fedex retiree healthcare plan and (something else new) 11/1 to 12/15 if you go thru an exchange for your insurance. Hopefully the details will be coming out soon. Edited ·

Walt Edmonds Yup, the original first 30 pilots, guys like Wayne Young, Don Blasal, etc etc. We all sacrificed in the very early days. Pay checks not cashed, short on everything from help to you name it. Stretching all we had. But we all worked as a tight team. It was awesome. 5 ·

John Wilkinson10/29/2017

John Wilkinson I also did a jaw drop until remembering that some of the sticker shock is because the company is not paying their part up front. We are seeing the total cost of the monthly premium. But with the rebate, it is not "quite" so bad. If I calculate in what they are providing per month through the premium reimbursement account (amounts from the table added together for both my wife and I divided by the number of months we have before we are 65 from 1/2018), it looks like a slight raise in costs for pre-65 retirees. However, if you factor in the loss of the medicare stipend, it becomes impossible to calculate. Certainly, if you are a long lived retiree, it won't take long to run thru the company contribution. Too bad we can't "cap" our retiree medical expenses like the company is doing. Edited · 7 ·

John Wilkinson10/29/2017

John Wilkinson I spent some more time doing analysis of the impact of the premium reimbursement account to the retiree health care costs. I would appreciate some thoughts as to whether I got it correct. The first assumption is that the funding of the accounts is the last contribution the company will make towards my wife and my retirement healthcare costs. In my case, our accounts are funded at $20K and $22K. My second assumption is that $11K of each account is the replacement of the Medicare stipend previously provided to Medicare age retirees. (I arrived at $11k since that is the amount of the account funding provided to 65 and older retirees from the table.) The $11K would provide the $85 per month stipend for approximately 10 and ¾ years for each plan participant. It appears that the company has established 76 years at the average age of a retiree/spouse at passing. I calculate the pre-65 impact is as follows: After subtracting $11K from each account, the remaining balances of $9K and $11k are the amount of company contribution towards Pre-65 retirement medical costs. I then calculated the number of months remaining for us before we reach Medicare age (65th birthday) from 1/1/2018. This came out to 14 and 34 months. Dividing $9K by 14 and $11K by 34 comes out to a fund contribution of approximately $643 and $324 per month respectively. Added together ($967) and subtracted from the retiree and spouse cost of $1810 for Retiree Consumer Choice leaves a monthly retiree payment of $843. In our case this is actually a reduction of nearly $125 dollars a month from what we paid in 2017 for the same coverage. Your mileage may vary based on what month you turn 65. Since the contribution uses your age as of 1/1/2018, the earlier your birthday is in the year, the more money the fund provides for your pre-65 costs. In other words, if your birthday is January 2nd, you have a larger pro-rated monthly contribution than someone whose birthday is December 31st since the later birthday must cover more months of reimbursement with the same amount of contribution. Please feel free to comment and correct. 4 ·

Based on the issues people are having with automatic deductions from their pension checks to pay monthly premiums, I decided to set up an automatic debit to my checking account. That was also easy. Answers with a little bit of history:

1. When a direct connection to the Internet was first initiated to the web, Data Protection, which was mostly only mainframe, insisted that FedEx users had to re-sign on, every time they changed to another website TRUE Data Security at the time, was put in charge of Internet security at their request, but really didn't know what it was. The edict was to sign on everyone time you went to a new webpage. Network Engineering just ignored their edict.

2. When the CIO asked to be set up on the Internet, the Data Protection Manager wanted the form to be sent to him directly so he could walk into the CIO's office to get his signature. Instead the network manager sent the form directly to the CIO, as per protocol. An email was sent to the network manager that the DP manager would now destroy his career.... TRUE The data protection manager sent the email from EMC2 something like protected mode, which meant it could not be printed. But many terminals were not 3270, but PC's doing 3270 emulation. The manager brought the killer email to me for advice on what to do with it, it could have gotten the dp mgr in trouble. We decided to just destroy the printed threat.

3. When the CIO wanted new business cards with his network email address, the address was in small letters...as per industry standard. The CIO sent them back to capitalize his address TRUE Dennis Jones was a little irate that his name wasn't capitalized, but Dale Browning relayed to him it was the industry standard, and he was then ok with little letters.

4. When a new flight optimizer program was tested it showed signifant savings in Pilot costs. The chief pilots and IT management asked to run the program in parallel with current systems for 3 months to verify. The SVP of AOD followed that advice but only for 1 week. FALSE The optimizer program showed massive savings across the network in planning crew scheduling. But the opinion of the pilots on the team and IT personnel was that we should run in parallel for a few months and continue to tune the system. The SVP over ruled everyone and said he was tired of waiting....go put it into operations on the next cycle. Results were good but had pilots flying all over the place to get to their flights, thus irritating them while contract negotiations were on going. The system was removed, and the Pilots re-named the system the Unionizer.

5. The orignial Supertracker had a tip for contact scanning of the airbill number. It was proposed to put a laser scanner on the new device. DGO refused the laser unless it could be placed on the opposite side of the contact scanner. TRUE DGO analysis was that a couple seconds per package could be saved if the lase scanner replaced the tip scanner. It was not feasible to do this without a major re-design and replacing all quad racks in the system, but they held to this requirement. A strategic planning meeting was called by FWS in which Dennis Jones, Winn Stephenson and I attended. He asked me what things we should be doing and I had 5, the first being to proceed with the laser scanner. Otherwise we would look foolish in the industry. UPS had a much cheaper diad device for their couriers, but they put a laser on those, making a cheap device look hi tech. Dennis Jones jumped in with a two minute impromptu brilliant analysis, showing that the actual cost of adding the laser scanner was 10 cents per day per courier and that without a doubt the couriers would gain that much payback. FWS approved $6M for this and told us to proceed. Bruce Lindow's group then integrated lasers.

6. Customer Service once had massived abandoned calls. They requested more inbound circuits be installed as rapidly as possible to fix the problem. TRUE They did request emergency installations of inbound circuits at all call centers. FedEx was going thru the Quality training and decided to do a quick Pareto study of what was actually happening. What was analyzed was that massive training had been edicted across Customer Service, and each location was doing the training at the same time, and re-routing overflow calls to another call center, which was also doing training. So, end result that only 10% of the workforce was actually answering phone calls.

7. FWS loved animal names for projects. FALSE Animal names were banned.

8. Before the technology was available on mobile devices, FWS wanted GPS in every van in order to build a massive database of customers, to improve the delivery service. TRUE FWS envisioned a mapping of all customer locations as we delivered packages which would help in future route planning and deliveries. Cost was too high at the time.

9. The SuperHub initially had tilt tray sorters instead of belt sorters. TRUE The primary sorters were belts where you entered the zip code and the pkg went down the belt and was kicked to another slide by diverters. But there was an intial gigantic Tilt tray system also installed, which basically used very little. I asked the project manager why it was put in, and he said....I just wanted one....

10. A lake was initially under the SuperHub that had to be filled in before construction. FALSE: Ben was correct, a creek had to be filled in before expanding the SuperHub

Jodie Harden11/7/2017

Just completed my 2018 Retiree Healthcare Enrollment for Pre-65 Medicare coverage. Here’s the process I finally maneuvered through:1). Selected my choices online 2). When I got to the last page where I had 2 choices for payment of premiums (Bill Me vs Direct Bank Draft), I was told by Customer Service to choose “Bill Me”. 3). That same Customer Service rep then opened a “Case” for me and provided me with a Case #. This Case was sent to the Retirement Service Center, asking them to “deduct my premium payments from my pension check” (which was really the choice I wanted but could NOT indicate online). 4). I then called the RSC and they verified the Case was open. They told me I would be called back in 24-48 hours to let me know my payment choice had been changed to “pension deduction”. 5). Now I wait for my phone call 🤔Hope this helps others who haven’t made their selections yet and want pension deduction for their monthly payment.

Richard Maingault11/7/2017

Richard Maingault I went through the same exercise yesterday. The person who helped first told me you could not choose pension deduction. But after I convinced her she found out how to do it. I also tried the online approach but wanted to make my payment method online and of course as stated above, you can only make one of two choices and pension deduction was not one of them. I think I have it setup. Waiting on phone call back to confirm. This is pretty screwed up. It looks like this whole process was quickly thrown together with out much testing. 2 ·

Lisa Daniel11/7/2017

Lisa Daniel Completed mine yesterday. Had to choose Retiree Consumer Choice only because if I added dental this year, it went over my pension check. So I called Retiree Line and they opened a case. Got a voicemail last Night that pension deduction had been completed. Since I still wanted dental, went to AON exchange and applied for Met Life, which was $22 less than Cigna. I’ll just pay that from my checking. My credit card is due on 5th of the month so I asked them to move due date so I have time to get reimbursed 1 ·

She seemed to think that I should go ahead. So now I wonder what I select for the payment option...guess I'll do the Bill option since she already opened a case for me. BUT THE BEST NEWS OF ALL IS THAT I CAN USE THE WEBSITE NOW. It would have been nice if they had let us FedEx-married retirees know that. I would much rather use the site than have Reps read off their cards. 1 ·

I have a cousin that just retired from a power company with just over a few thousands and he pays around 250.00 a month for insurance. Now tell me what’s wrong with this picture. It’s just not right I worked so long and can’t get major health insurance.

Susie Coyle Richardson11/14/2017

Susie Coyle Richardson You will likely find lower costs in the open market. If your income is low enough (lt $48k), you might want to see if you qualify for ACA tax credits. Good luck. 1 ·

Hector Vazquez11/14/2017

Hector Vazquez I retired in May. I went with COBRA and for the Cigna Premier plan which I was already on, I’m paying $550 a month. And that includes dental and vision for both my wife and I. 2 ·

Leroy Hebert11/14/2017

Leroy Hebert Is this full coverage, I checked the market for insurance and it’s not full coverage. You only get two doctors appointment a year 1 ·

Leroy Hebert11/14/2017

Leroy Hebert And the dental and Vision was not insurance it was a discount program. 1 ·

Deby Abbott Jolley11/14/2017

Deby Abbott Jolley It's the same coverage/discount program we got as employees.

Hector Vazquez11/14/2017

Hector Vazquez Although COBRA is only an 18 month solution, yes, this is full coverage. Vision is Davis like it was before, and dental is Cigna. Coverage is the same as when I was active. 1 ·

Rebecca Felts11/14/2017

Rebecca Felts Leroy, my question to you is have you checked the FedEx pre-65 insurance? You didn't tell us your age. I took the buy-out in 2013. I plan on staying on Cigna because the other options were about the same price. $1800 for my husband and I and better coverage. They are giving a one time credit to help with insurance costs. This varies depending on your age. Since you just retired I am not sure what options they are giving you. No matter how hard you worked it doesn't guarantee s company will keep paying the same or covering you. You have to be your own company. Edited · 2 ·

Leroy Hebert11/14/2017

Leroy Hebert Rebecca I’m 62, my wife is 58.

Leroy Hebert11/14/2017

Leroy Hebert I will call to see about the pre-65 insurance, thanks

Rebecca Felts11/14/2017

Rebecca Felts You should call the retiree folks or go to: retirement.fedex.com. Look at the portal for health and call. $2000 seems high but I don't know what other factors you have in your coverage. At 62 IF Fedex is offering new retirees the same credits, yours would be $22,000. THis might bridge you a little until you can get on medicare. Not sure if your wife has coverage through her employer. Your Benefits Resources -- Greeting Page resources.hewitt.com

Leroy Hebert11/14/2017

Leroy Hebert Rebecca Felts she has no insurance where she works.

Deby Abbott Jolley11/14/2017

Deby Abbott Jolley Did you retire without researching the insurance thing? That was one of my main concerns about retiring!! 2 ·

Dany Hsch I was wondering the same thing

Timothy Joseph Frassinelli11/14/2017

Timothy Joseph Frassinelli Exactly!! Thank You!!

Leroy Hebert11/14/2017

Leroy Hebert Yes I did Deby, had to get short term insurance until November 1st. Talk to Blue Cross Blue Sheild and they told I had to wait to November to reply. Had some friends that used them, so I waited for the 1st of November. Called them on the 1st and they said they longer selling individual family plans. 😡😡

Dany Hsch11/14/2017

Dany Hsch Leroy Hebert But of course you researched the FedEx retiree medical, right? 1 ·

Leroy Hebert11/14/2017

Leroy Hebert Dany Hsch yep, there's two plans. One is 1,800 and the other one is 2,200 a month. While working it was a little over 400, difference.

Deby Abbott Jolley11/14/2017

Deby Abbott Jolley So it sounds like Open Market might be your best bet - since the Blue Cross/Blue Shield thing didn't work out...

Cathy Wallace11/16/2017

Cathy Wallace I researched it, and in two years after I left, it went from 480.00 to 1200.00 a month !!! 1 ·

Rebecca Felts11/15/2017

Rebecca Felts Leroy, are you eligible to get the one time reimbursement payout? If you stay with the FedEx Cigna plans that money can bridge u until you get to 65.

Dany Hsch11/15/2017

Dany Hsch It doesn’t sound like it

Tonya Handwerker11/15/2017

Tonya Handwerker I retired in 2013. My Cigna retiree insurance went to about 900 a month and I could not afford it. I went to the affordable health care market and with about the same coverage got Humana for 350 a month for dental and medical. I have re-enrolled for 2018 and I have Cigna with dental for 350$ a month. All in all I don't know what the right answer is but for now the lower premium works for me. I won't get the 85$ a month supplement for life and I won't be eligible for the 21,000 stipend but all in all I am able to maintain coverage that works for me so I can't look back just forward. 2 ·

Pre 65 Retiree Health question - has anyone received a clear explaination on whether spouse who was receiving the $85 a month premium this year 2017 is eligible for the 2018 $11,000 credit? He was not on my medical plan at time of reitement becasue he was already on Medicare.

Linda Hinson Mills11/15/2017

Linda Hinson Mills Nope can’t get anyone that can answer that question. I opt out on FedEx insurance & went on Tommy’s BCBS but kept dental & vision. I will be on Medicare in March. Subject: Retiree benefits have been such an issue recently but you won't believe the problem I'm having with ...

Ray Lipham11/17/2017

Retiree benefits have been such an issue recently but you won't believe the problem I'm having with a COBRA Dental policy for my wife. When I received the COBRA Annual Enrollment packet, the dental plan premium for "Beneficiary Only" was listed as $97.92, quite a jump from $55 and some odd cents I'm currently paying. The odd part, is that the same packet listed the dental plan premium for "Beneficiary and Family" as $48.96. So the price for insuring two people is half the price of insuring one person? I knew that could not be right so I called WageWorks and they confirmed the prices I had were correct: $48.96 to cover two people or $97.92 to cover one. I pointed out to them how irrational that was and they finally conceded to creating a ticket and said that I should hear back from them in a couple of days. Heard nothing after waiting more than a week so I called them back. Same story all over again and same results: I never heard back from them. So I then called FedEx Employee Benefits and they got WageWorks on the line and again WageWorks confirmed the prices. Employee Benefits recognized that it was a problem and created a ticket to research it further. Unfortunately, I received a call from Benefits today and they said I would have to resolve the issue with the FedEx Retiree Benefit Center (Hewitt). I called Hewitt today but it was a real zoo and I don't think I was even talking to the right person since they could not find my record. I'm supposed to hear back from them next Monday but I suspect what I will hear is that they are not the right people to resolve the issue. If only I knew who was the right person. No one seems to know.

Debora Williams Waller11/17/2017

Debora Williams Waller Oh Ray, It does not sound logical at all. However, your post sounds so much like what I have been going throught with AON.

Timothy Joseph Frassinelli11/18/2017

Timothy Joseph Frassinelli Theresa Marie, It’s been that way since 2008, when I became eligible for Medicare and I am still paying the same premium for the same Fedex Insurance to cover my wife as I did for me and my wife, except now it covers my wife only and I pay another premium to Medicare for just me. I really don’t get it. I worked and paid for Fedex Insurance for 27 years, get sick enough to qualify for Medicare and get dropped like a hot potato. (?)

Ray Lipham11/28/2017

Ray Lipham The problem finally got fixed. I received two emails from Hewittt (The FedEx Retiree Center) saying that they were still working on the problem and then I got another email stating in the title that more information was needed but the content of the email was totally unrelated to the problem. So I called Hewitt and lied to the phone menu (COBRA plans are not an option in the phone menus so you have to select an unrelated option and ask the person you finally get hold of to transfer you to the right person). The person I finally ended up talking to had no record of me calling or any record of me in their system so they said they needed to transfer me to another person. Well they transferred me back to the clueless folks at WageWorks, so I thought I was dead in the water again but I went ahead and asked them what the premium price was for the plan and, by golly, the prices had been fixed. I don't know if they got fixed because of my efforts or if I was just beating my head against a wall and they got fixed by some other means. Regarless, the problem is fixed. 2 ·

Marsha Terry Rider11/29/2017

Marsha Terry Rider glad it got fixed, Ray. Now take one aspirin and call the Doctor in the morning. :-)

Ray Lipham10/13/2018

Question: If you receive the OneExchange letter " Announcing Your Personalized Reimbursement Request Form" and previously was getting your $85/person FedEx benefit applied to your part B premium automatically.....do you have to resubmit this form? letter really wasn't clear. thx jimmy

Eddie Garrison11/28/2017

Eddie Garrison I have a question,, if you are still working and are eligible for Medicare. Does you FedEx insurance end?

Linda Cook Thorn12/4/2017

Linda Cook Thorn I received my Social Security and my salary. Depends on how much your salary is they could reduce your social security.

Jimmy Glenn Burk11/28/2017

Unless it has changed, you can stay on FedEx insurance. I think it was recommended that you go ahead and get Medicare Part A, because it is free and becomes a secondary insurance if needed. Also, if you miss applying for Part B because you stay on FedEx insurance, you have to get a letter from FedEx whenever you end that insurance, so that you don't pay a penalty on your part B premiums, when you do start it.

Liddie Money Frederick The OneExchange sent us, me the employee and my husband, the forms like they have been doing for the past 5 years, we both filled out the forms and sent them back in with the usual backup, letter from SS, we got a letter from OneExchange Saturday with the amount times 12, and the total and said claim denied. So, the usual, is no longer, now we wait. And i was in the buyout of May 2013, and we both are over 65, and we both have been receiving the $85 monthly, since I retired. 1 ·

Ray Lipham12/1/2017

After having received no previous communications about any changes in the post-65 $85 per month health care subsidy and after being told by FedEx Employee Benefits that the reason I haven't received any information about changes was because I was "grandfathered in" for the $85 subsidy for life, today I received a letter notifying me that the $85 subsidy would be replaced by a one time credit in an HRA ($11,000 for me and $11,000 for my wife since we are both 65). OK, whatever! The one time credit gives me the flexibility to cover more of the current medical premium expenses which are in excess of $85 a month. $11,000 is worth 10.8 years of the $85 subsidy but considering that $85 now has more value that $85 years from now, the one time credit is worth more than 10.8 years but not a lot more if you assume 3% inflation (roughly about 13 years at best.) Still, I'm Happy 😊 with receiving just that. Future FedEx retirees will not be so fortunate. To paraphrase Garrett Morris (SNL), FedEx "has been berry, berry good to me".

Ronnie Foster Ray, you mean your non-Fedex wife will receive the benefit? My wife is 66 and I never heard anything about spouse benefit.

Ray Lipham12/2/2017

Ray Lipham Yes, since she was covered by the FedEx Retiree Health Plan before she reached 65 and switched to Medicare with the $85 per month subsidy when she turned 65, she is entitled to the $11,000 credit in the HRA.

Ray Lipham12/2/2017

Laura Ladd Beard12/5/2017

Laura Ladd Beard Roy got the same letter. It’s basically the same for the pre 65 retirees but the lump sum is $11k. Pre 65 retirees got much more information than what’s in this letter. Basically, $11k goes into a reimbursement account. You pay your premiums, then submit proof of your payments and the amount will be reimbursed for that amount. You should be able to set up a reoccurring reimbursement so you don’t have to submit but one time. The amount can be for your full premium or a portion. Once the $11k is gone, then there’s no more reimbursement ever. A packet explaining the reimbursement process and details will be mailed at the end of the year. The concept is much like what you are doing with one exchange now. But, it’s $11k and you manage the amount to be reimbursed each month. The money can only be used for premium reimbursement. No copays I think the packet will cover everything. 3 ·

Martha Thomas12/15/2017

Did anyone who actually got information other than the 12/1/2017 letter get any information about the automatic reimbursement process? I have stopped all automatic reimbursement through Towers Perrin. I figured that my burn rate is now $85/ month. My husband's Part D insurance increased to about $88/month. This would put his burn rate on the $11,000 up $3/month. That is only $36/year, but it goes up every year. Hence, the $11,000 will not last the 10.8 years that it will at a burn rate of $85/month. Was this discussed in any of the webinars or telephone calls or communication received by those who got their notifications before 12/1/2017? I'm concerned about retirees who use automatic reimbursement for their Part B or their supplemental insurance. If they are reimbursed the full amount, in the past they maxed out at $1020. Now, I would think it would continue until the full $11,000 is used, which could potentially be as fast at 3-5 years. Just wondering!

Ray Lipham12/21/2017

Happy New Year everybody! Yeah, I'm one of those nuts who thinks the New Year really starts on the Winter solstice instead of some arbitrary day determined by the Roman calendar that was out of whack with the New Year and then wasn't properly adjusted when the Gregorian Calendar was adopted. Hey folks, get it right! The year is determined by the sun and the months are determined by the moon. In case you are wondering, the week was determined by God because on the seventh day, he rested.

Does anyone have local numbers for FedEx benefits? I get an overnight letter saying the FSA has not paid FedEx benefits for two months. I call the 800 number and get someone in Israel for 2 hours on hold. Then I call and get someone in the Phillipenes. I have confirmation on both checked cashed by FedEx for the last two months from my FSA. Now they say I still owe for December. I have a check number and confirmed deposited number. Deposited 12/14.I'm getting nowhere. I hate to have to drive to Hacks Cross Roads.

Jodie Harden12/26/2017

Just spent 1 hour on the phone and I "hope" I now know how the pre-65 Retiree Health Reimbursement Account (and Process) works! This issue is all administered by AON. Go to "retiree.aon.com/fedex". This is where you can create a login and "just like magic", you will see the $$$ you (and your spouse) will be receiving on 1/1/2018. They are also the ones that we will send our reimbursement requests to, once we have claims. They said we should be able to set it up once and have the same amount reimbursed to us each month. (since 2018 has not arrived yet, the Customer Service Rep I spoke with could not "walk me thru that process" since their screens have not been updated yet, to show them this process). You can go thru the same steps and create an account for your spouse too.Hope this helps everyone as much as it did me! I had never been told that AON was administering the reimbursement money!!!Their Hotline number is 844-364-7636.Hope everyone enjoyed a great Christmas and has a great 2018!

Jodie Harden12/26/2017

Jodie Harden After you create your account, go to My Account (top right corner) and select the dropdown option for Health Reimbursement Account. That is where you will see your $$$ and do whatever you need/want to do with your $$$. 1 ·

Laura Ladd Beard12/26/2017

Laura Ladd Beard Thanks for this info! It was very easy to create an account and see the lump sum. 1 ·

Gary Phillips12/26/2017

Gary Phillips This is not for the $11000 lump sum, right?

Gary Phillips12/26/2017

Gary Phillips Thed $11000 is being administered by One Exchange, correct?

Jodie Harden12/26/2017

Jodie Harden I can’t answer that. All I asked them about was my situation, the pre-65 crowd. Sorry! 1 ·

Kathy Guererri Heatherly12/29/2017

Kathy Guererri Heatherly Yes 11,000 65+ is being administrated by One Exchange. Looked today amount is available Jan 1st 2018

Gary Phillips12/29/2017

Gary Phillips Yep, mine showed uo a few days ago but it's not exactly just 65 plus. 1 ·

Annie Curle Billings1/3/2018

Annie Curle Billings Kathy, I'm trying to find out info for one of my friends. Linda's husband is 65+ and we don't have the URL for One Exchange. Can you tell us where it is? Thanks, Annie

Lisa Daniel12/26/2017

Lisa Daniel Thanks Jodie. AON retiree shows my husbands HSA, directs you back to Your Spending Account for reimbursement. Appreciate you spending the time to call and let Us know the procedure 1 ·

John Wilkinson12/26/2017

John Wilkinson I was also able to get to AON and see my HRA balance by selecting the AON option in the Fedex Retiree site and then selecting HRA from the subsequent AON page. This did not require me to set up an AON login. 1 ·

Patricia Ross12/26/2017

Patricia Ross Gary Phillips. One Exchange is managing the $11,000. When you login to One Exchange you will see that the $11,000 has been allocated effective Jan 1, 2018. 1 ·

Linda Hinson Mills12/27/2017

Linda Hinson Mills Mine showed up under my YSA. But not my husbands, so do need to go into the system under aon and sign up for anything.

Judy Davidson12/29/2017

Judy Davidson I tried submitting my $961.00 invoice for Jan health coverage thru the Reimburse Me app (which I've used the past 4 yrs w/o problem) since I still have remaining $ there. Today I rec'd email stating claim was denied because there was no proof of payment. I HAVE NEVER SENT IN PROOF OF PAYMENT OR BEEN REQUESTED TO. I still have not received my ins card for 2018. I have to say this has been unnecessarily confusing and stressful. And I still dont have clarity on how this whole process works

Laura Ladd Beard12/29/2017

Laura Ladd Beard Judy Davidson just curious, is this app related to funds you received as part of the buyout. I only ask because I am not familiar with it. I do know I read somewhere to be sure to use any “buy out” related dollars before using the lump sum that is effective January 1

Judy Davidson12/29/2017

Judy Davidson Yes Laura, I still have a tiny bit of buy out funds and attempted to use it like i have in past, only it was denied. I'll attempt again tomorrow to get SOMEBODY on phone that knows what is hell is going on... 1 ·

Laura Ladd Beard12/29/2017

Laura Ladd Beard Judy Davidson good luck!

Lisa Daniel12/29/2017

Lisa Daniel Google your spending account/FedEx. This is the buyout one used for pre 65. It shows funds but non available so it must changeover Jan 1. Got my pension check yesterday and ready to submit Monday 1 ·

Laura Ladd Beard12/29/2017

Laura Ladd Beard Lisa Daniel do you scan your check and submit the image? This is my first experience with reimbursement for my premiums. Thanks!

Judy Davidson12/29/2017

Judy Davidson Just got off phone with them. Was told I had to scan image of where I had paid my 961 a month to FedEx as proof of payment. Send it into my spending account to be reimbursed after the fact. That's what I was told today nothing like tying up $1,000 every month on this. It wasn't like this before it didn't work like this before 1 ·

Linda Hinson Mills12/29/2017

Linda Hinson Mills Ok for this new RHPA do we sign up for it. Will it work like YSA?

Gary Phillips12/26/2017

Gary Phillips I've seen that ($18,000 for me). O.k. just trying to understand what the AON thing is for.

Laura Ladd Beard12/26/2017

Laura Ladd Beard Gary Phillips I believe it’s only for pre 65. My $20k will be reimbursed by aon. Roy’s by one exchange because of his age. But he’s one exchange is currently showing $1,020 for 2018,not the $11k. I will give it a week or so to see if it changes before I call.

Gary Phillips12/26/2017

Gary Phillips Ok, i thought so and you told me that before just keep hearing different stories so assume there s still lots of confusion. At least the $$ are showing up in the sites now. So the $20k is to help with you retirement insurance. Mine ($18k) just showed up in ONE EXCHANGE so I imagine his will soon. 1 ·

Jimmy Glenn Burk12/27/2017

Mine also shows $1020 for the year.

Laura Ladd Beard12/27/2017

Laura Ladd Beard Jimmy Glenn Burk did you check your wife’s? So far, you and roy are the only ones I have heard showing the $1,020 1 ·

More Pre65 RHRA ???I have checked the AON site and see both our funds loaded and I received our 2018 CIGNA cards today. BUUUTTT I have not received anything regarding how, when, or to whom to send the premium payment.Has anyone received this info. Payment is obviously not going to make it by 1/1/2018. 😀Thanks

Laura Ladd Beard12/29/2017

Laura Ladd Beard I believe, after you log into AON, you can go to My Account, select HRA, select Manage my HRA. Then it looks like you will be directed to your spending account. From there, look for submit a claim. I haven’t tried it since I don’t have a claim yet but it looks pretty straightforward. Edited · 1 ·

Jodie Harden12/29/2017

Jodie Harden I tried to setup my “recurring monthly reimbursement” there, to begin on 1/1/2018. It didn’t work because it asked for a “Type” in a drop down menu but there are no options to select, in that drop down box. Jodie Harden1/1/2018

OK, so I just logged into my FedEx account to attempt to request reimbursement for my pre-65 Medical payment (which I had deducted from my pension check). Here is what happened:1) My account showed a grand total of $$$ in it which equaled both my one-time payment and my wife's payment also. 2) When I started creating my "claim" for reimbursement, only MY $$$ was listed as available to be used (so I assume my wife has to create her own FedEx account, if we want to use her $$$) 3) I was able to successfully submit my claim AND indicate that I wanted the same amount reimbursed to me each month, beginning today. 4) I uploaded a scanned copy of my pension statement, to be used as documentation for my claim. 5) My current claim status is "In Process - Receipts Received". 6) For anyone who took the buyout like I did, if you used the Your Spending Account app on your phone, it also now shows a new account balance which equals my one-time deposit today AND now shows the claim I just created. Again, I assume my wife will have to create her own YSA account and download this app, to do similar functions because her $$$ was not shown with mine. 7) When creating my claim, I was never asked "how I wanted to receive my reimbursement"! SO.....does it assume I want the $$$ mailed to me as a check OR did it remember I setup "direct deposit during the same process with my buyout account and it will send my $$$ that way"??? Who knows?Hope this helps the rest of you and if anybody determines how my reimbursement will arrive to me, please let me know.

Jodie Harden1/1/2018

Jodie Harden However, every hour (when I assume their system tries to process my request) it keeps telling me I need to provide documentation, which I’ve done several times. Looks like another call tomorrow! 🤪

Laura Ladd Beard1/1/2018

Laura Ladd Beard Under the YSA, look at My Profile. There’s a section to enter direct deposit information. If this was what you used for buyout related reimbursement, my guess is the direct deposit information is still there. Mine has no information because I didn’t retire with the buyout. Hope this helps

Jodie Harden1/1/2018

Jodie Harden Laura Ladd Beard, I saw that later and mine did still have my bank info from the buyout $$$ so I hope that process still works. Again, if it will just recognize the documentation I provided!!! 1 ·

They said call Fedex benefits if I had any questions.Just curious how many others are in the same situation.
