Laura, my $11K has been on One Exchange for about a week and so has my wife's. We're both Over 65 and both retired from FedEx for nearly 12 years and 7 years respectively.
Laura Ladd Beard1/2/2018
Laura Ladd Beard
I think the majority are showing the $11k. One exchange was very nice but, basically said they load the amount they receive from Fedex. That makes sense. Fedex benefits said they refer everyone to One Exchange if they have questions. I will call benefits back in a day or so if the amount remains at $1,020.
Elizabeth Rohrer Field Irvine1/3/2018

How will the $11k. be paid out to the over 65 ? Lump sum ?
Linda Cook Thorn1/3/2018
Linda Cook Thorn
Mine is there along with some funds that rolled over from last year
Linda Cook Thorn1/3/2018
Linda Cook Thorn
Laura /Elizabeth, I don’t think we can withdraw it. I think it is there to reimburse us for Medicare premiums and other medical expenses. We have to submit claims and documentation of medical proof and they will reimburse you. I could be wrong but that is the same way the $1020.00 Per year was made payable to us.
Edited · 1 ·
Laura Ladd Beard1/3/2018
Laura Ladd Beard
Linda, you are absolutely correct. It’s to be used to reimburse premiums only.
My question is my husband’s amount is still $1,020; not the $11k. One exchange agrees that the amount is incorrect but can’t change it without direction from Fedex. I will call Fedex benefits shortly to attempt to get an answer.

Laura Ladd Beard I swear I read on the website in the list of things you can claim and several medical charges including medications were on the list. Must have been another benefit. ?
Laura Ladd Beard1/3/2018
Laura Ladd Beard
Angela Maynard i called 800-888-5622. they are a third party vendor and apparently don't have any contacts at fedex. they basically said wait two weeks and call one exchange back if the amount has not been corrected.
Laura Ladd Beard1/3/2018
Laura Ladd Beard
Angela Maynard i sent an email to shannon brown with the details and asked him to forward it a benefits employee who can help.
Elizabeth Rohrer Field Irvine1/4/2018

It would be a easier way to have the lump sum 11k . Due to all the miss place claims and documentation could happen. .
Linda Cook Thorn1/4/2018
Linda Cook Thorn
I think the debit card like they gave us for the buyout would have been better. Could only use for premiums and specific medical expenses.

Pre-65 RHPA - Retiree Health Premium Account I just logged on to Your Spending Account/FedEx (YSA). I see my allocated RHPA balance based on my age clearly labeled differently than my Your Spending Account Balance (YSA). To the left is Check Eligible Expenses and Retiree Health Premium Accoount. You can select that and see what expenses you are eligible to be reimbused for. I still do not have a Welcome Packet but I guess I have what I need online now.

The site was *very* sluggish for me, too - but I got my request in just seconds before it logged me off.
Maybe (I hope) it was just heavy traffic because everyone was trying to get signed up and enter their requests.
Better luck today!!!!
John Wilkinson1/3/2018

I got in today and the site seemed to be working ok. I just puzzled through it and got my reimbursement requests submitted (one for me, one for wife). It looks like they have acknowledged the requests and are in the documentation review step. Hopefully I'll find out in a day or two. Maybe I'll beat the "Welcome Packet" getting here.

I think you will find it all worked out. They had view to my account and my husband's at 866 682 4741 option 1 for spending dept. All was already up as I previously had it. They had it as paying my blue cross and etc upto 11k. Husband has his own account already there also.

Pre-65 Retiree (2012) without buyout. I logged in to the site today and set up my reimbursement monies. I did get a selection screen to add my bank information for a one time monthly reimbursement. Several options there. My medical/vison/dental is deducted from pension check so I uploaded a copy of my pension stub listing deductions. My status is "In Process" and "Pending". While I did this, I had contacted AON via phone (long wait time) just incase I had problems on their site. The representative for AON said - I do not show FedEx in my list & they are in alphabetical order. You will have to contact your Benefits dept. Told him to have a nice day. I hope I don't have to contact them again. Screen printed all my documents listing Transaction Number and Document ID. I still do not have the Welcome Kit.

Flight 9090 was piloted by Captain Stew Harro (#96930) and Captain John Hunt (#47456). Capt Harro came from Tigers in 1989 and Capt Hunt was hired in 1985. Both have history on the DC10 and 727, but (as I have known them) have long been attached to the MD11 and 777. Both are long time instructors and line check airmen. Great guys!

Just choose the option to run an "offline" account. That is what is known as a "local" account. Works fine for me. If you had several Windows PCs using a Microsoft account to log in would let you sync things like wallpaper and calendar among them.

Liddie Money Frederick1/5/2018
For all of those requesting reimbursements, I just looked at my One Exchange for the claim that requested Monday, and a small one yesterday morning and it is showing 'Paid on 1-5-2018', so my bank should show it today. So the One Exchange system is working as it should. I am very proud to have worked for FedEx for 24 years and to have gotten the buyout in 2013 and to have been a part of this $11,000.00. Oh My husbands claims that I submitted for him are showing paid on 1-5-2018, also. He also thinks FedEx is a good company. Oh, i set these up for 12 months, i will not have to submit these claims again, it is a good system.
Peter Dangerfield1/5/2018
Peter Dangerfield
Good to hear Liddle, did you make the first payment and then One Exchange will make the rest automatically?
Liddie Money Frederick1/5/2018
Liddie Money Frederick
I submitted a copy of my SS Letter telling exactly what they are taking out of my SS check each month, and we all know SS never changes their minds, so that is a standing amount that I will be reimbursed every month, no more submitting. I also submitted a small drug charge of $22.30 to One Exchange that is due the 1st of every month, and they paid it, and it is also set up for 12 months, never any changes to it, so I have paid these out of my SS check and out of my checking (copy was attached to claim from my checking account) and One Exchange is reimbursing me, because I attached proof of payment to them, hope this helps answer your question, I paid first. Yes One Exchange will automatically pay me without me resubmitting for 12 months.

Has anyone successfully submitted a claim for reimbursement for the Fedex Retiree Healthcare January Premium?I submitted my request for reimbursement on Tuesday, January 2nd with documentation from my bank showing the withdrawal of $1826 with description of the withdrawal and also a copy of the Fedex Confirmation of Benefits showing the costs. I checked tonight and it shows that my claim has been denied. They are saying the documentation is missing description of service.I used the same type of documentation when requesting reimbursement for healthcare after the buyout. I never had any issues. Same company Hewitt, handling the reimbursement then as now.Any suggestions or comments?

I submitted claims for both my husband and I on 1/2/2018 on the YSA site for pre-65 reimbursement. I checked this morning and they were both approved and the reimbursements are scheduled for direct deposit. When I submitted the claims, I broke the claims down into separate expenses for pre-65 medical, pre-65 dental, and pre-65 vision with the costs for each. Then I attached two documents to the claims, both pdfs generated from the retirement.fedex.com site under the Health tab. Select Review Billings and Payments from the Take Action drop down. The 1st document I attached was a pdf generated from the Billing Information page showing Current Amount Due of 0.00 along with my Direct Debit information showing that the payment was deducted from my checking. The 2nd document I attached was a pdf generated from the Billing Rates page showing the individual costs of medical, dental, and vision and that all 3 were paid through 1/31/2018. I did not attach anything from my bank account. Hope this helps everyone get their claims paid. I didn't call anyone, I just attached what I thought would show that the premium was paid along with the details of the payment. As my husband likes to say "A blind squirrel finds a nut every now and then.". :-)

For Pre-65 retirees. I’ve always used the Reimbursement mobile app to submit my premium claims. I talked to them in November & they said they were working to support us for 2018. I just logged in to that app & they are showing my 2018 $22k. Has anyone used this app to submit January reimbursement?I’m going to try but what Service Provider should I list? AON/Fedex I’m assuming.

In order to manage the 11K we all received that was previously 1020.00 per year, do we need to contact Tower Watson if we want a distribution of 1020.00 per year from the account, or will they continue it at the 1020.00.

I contacted One Exchange Tower Watts, using this money for Medicare Plan B to be deducted amount from the $11,000. Upload SS 2018 for documentation. Is shows the amount deducted from both my account and my husbands. The amount for each is to be put in our checking account thru 12/31/2018

Kathy, what phone number did you use. All I see on the web site is a phone number to setup an appt for a call back. Tower Watson is getting documentation from my Supplemental policy and also from Humana Drug plan. I assume that they will continue to receive these docs. I need to make sure they do not payout more than 1020.00 per year so I manage the funds to last me.
Kathy Guererri Heatherly1/8/2018
Kathy Guererri Heatherly
Richard Maingault, here is the number funding 866-682-4741. Ask for funding. Be prepared to be on hold for a long time. Haven't seen if money as been deposited yet. Same here were taking out the least as possible a year so it would last us longer. Also heard conflicting information. My question was if myself or my husband passed before premium is not all used. One agent said it would go the person estate when it's requested. Another agent said it would go back to fedex. Ask that question and let me know what they see you. Thanks
Martha Thomas1/8/2018
Martha Thomas
I've seen no details, but I would suspect that they will not stop at the $1020, but continue until the end of the year at whatever amount is shown on the sheet. I know when I requested reimbursement last year for $85 per month with my SS 2018 documentation as supporting document. They ignored the amount I entered, and paid the entire amount shown on the form.
Richard Maingault1/8/2018
Richard Maingault
Just off the phone with Tower Watson. Any money left in the account goes to your estate. Also, the only way you manage the 11k payouts, it to stop auto reimbursement when you the account reaches the amount payout for that year, then restart the auto payment say in January. Otherwise they will continue to payout until the 11k is gone. Make it much harder than it was before.

Richard Maingault, that for getting that answered for me. Yes I understand each new year new documents will need to be upload with the type premium you want to get reimbursed for. Think my husband said the 11k might last 7 years. Very little bit helps. Are you sixty-five yet?

Martha Thomas OneExchange denied my reimbursement request because the amount deducted from my checking account is more than my monthly premium. My provider drafts both my premium and another household member's, who is not eligible for reimbursement because we're not married, from my account as a single transaction. Now mind you I uploaded a letter from my healthcare provider showing my monthly amount due and my request for reimbursement was for my premium alone. They denied it saying the amount of my actual premium and the amount deducted from my checking account must match. Therefore, if I wanted to only be reimbursed for a portion of my monthly premium in order to stretch my reimbursement account over more years I wouldn't be able to.

John Wilkinson1/8/2018
Apparently even though the Premium Reimbursement accounts are linked for spouses, you can't get reimbursed for your spouses portion of the premium from your account or yours from your spouse's. I submitted claims for both my wife and myself for this month's premium against her account thinking we would use her account first and then when empty, shift to my account. I found out today that it won't work that way. They denied my portion of the request against her account and then moved the request over to my account. They even took care of setting up the automatic reimbursement on my account. I confirmed via phone that they did not need me to do anything other than wait for processing. Guess this means I will get 2 deposits in checking rather than just one.

John Wilkinson1/10/2018
Well, I thought I was home free with the new process upon getting my pre-65 premium reimbursement in the bank this morning. Two deposits had been made in my checking account(one for me and one for my wife).
Just to make certain all was set up properly for next month, I went back into the YSA accounts to check. Originally I had submitted for my and my wife's reimbursement against her account. Someone or something on the YSA side decided that my reimbursement had to come from my account and moved that request over to my account, denying it in hers. They also adjusted the auto auto reimbursement I had made for subsequent months to show my wife's portion from her account and my portion from my account. I called and had one of the admins check over what had been done and they said I was set.....1/2 the premium from my account and 1/2 from my wife's, Jan reimbursement approved. Not exactly what I wanted, but it all spends the same.
This morning I saw the two bank deposits. I decided to check YSA to make certain all was set properly for auto reimbursement next month. I was shocked to find my account saying that it had been overpaid even though the amount deposited was correct. I immediately called (approx 40 minute wait) and talked to an admin. Apparently, the unknown forces on the YSA side had re-decided that I could get both my wife and I reimbursed from her account and had re-instated my original request against her account, denying the one they had put into mine. Unfortunately they had done the denial after initiating the direct deposit into my bank account. My wife's account showed a direct deposit for her portion of the Jan premium and, having reinstated my original request in my wife's account, they then approved a third direct deposit which hasn't posted to the bank yet. Supposedly the third direct deposit should post to the bank tomorrow, leaving my account overpaid by 1/2 my premium this month.
Since they also readjusted my auto reimbursement back to what I had originally requested (both my wife and me reimbursed from her account), I will have to go and pay back their over payment against my account on a credit card once the third YSA payments posts.
The moral of this very confusing story is to check your YSA accounts to make certain everything is correct, even after getting paid! I'm guessing that this new process is as confusing to some of the folks working the YSA claims as it is to us trying to make them.

My pre-65 health care reimbursement isn't going very well. I was full of admiration for the folks who posted success. But, my bill didn't come until January 8 and I had next to nothing from the YSA except a name until 2 days ago. I have, for the hundredth time, forgotten my password into retirement.fedex.com. How is that possible? 🙄I don't see logic in this process: I'm getting a check from FedEx for my pension (for which I am so thankful) and then getting billed for the insurance payment that I pay back to FedEx and submitting a another request to FedEx for reimbursement. I am very grateful for the YSA, happy to have a pension, willing to pay my bill, but man..... This reminds me of the 2011 process for loading mainframe software. I'm getting a headache.

Logical woman that I am, I called to find out what address the retirement center had. After an intermadible menu tree selection and a long wait, I was told by a real person that they had my new address. I know the bank has the right address. Fred Smith floats idea of higher FedEx wages post-tax reform
By Meagan Nichols – Lead Reporter, Memphis Business Journal
“I am sure we are going to be doing a lot of things as a result of this tax bill, because it was a very, very good policy.”
That is what Fred Smith — founder, chairman and CEO of Memphis-based FedEx Corp. — told Stuart Varney, host of the Fox Business Network’s Varney & Co. during a Tuesday, Jan. 16, interview.
What exactly those things might be Smith did not say, but he did say the company’s board would need to approve any items before announcements were made.
When Varney asked if FedEx could do something similar to Walmart and give bonuses to one million workers, Smith responded, “My guess is we will be responsive to the tax bill.” He continued that it might not be in the form of employee bonuses but rather increased wages — something he said FedEx does every year.
Varney then asked if tax reform would translate to higher wages.
“It could well be,” Smith said. “For the very simple reason that the tax bill corrects something that has been a real problem for American business for years, and that is the punitive tax code that we used to have that dissuaded investment. And, investment is the only way to make blue collar workers — people who don’t have college degrees — more productive and have more income. You can hire six people to move a pile of dirt or you can hire one person with a bulldozer. The difference is the bulldozer. The bulldozer driver makes a lot more money than the people with the shovels.”
In other words, an investment in infrastructure can equal an investment in people.
Varney also asked Smith whether Amazon’s investment into its own delivery fleet worried FedEx. Smith responded by flexing FedEx's muscles, citing the company's extensive inventory of 650 planes, 13 million daily shipments and nearly half-a-million employees.
The topic of drones was briefly touched on, as well. Smith acknowledged efforts were underway for autonomous vehicles and aircraft at FedEx but said he did not like to talk specifics about things that might not later appear in operations.
“I think, some of these things, in the next couple of years you will see a lot of announcements from FedEx,” Smith said.
The bottom line: Smith, who has historically proved very vocal on the topic of tax reform, said the recent action was a long time coming.
“It will allow us to put more into the business with less risk, and that was the big issue that was solved with the tax bill,” Smith said. “That and the ability to bring money that was locked oversees back to the United States.”
FedEx has more than 400,000 employees, averages 13 million shipments per business day and connects more than 220 countries and territories. In fiscal 2017, FedEx reported $60.3 billion in annual revenue. In Q2 2018, the company had $16.3 billion in revenue.

FedEx made the decision to do away with our old employee numbers as our account number since we are no longer employees. You can call FedEx Benefits and they can hook you up with the security office at Davis Vision out of NY to get an alternate number. I suggest you make this call. Davis’s security office feels this was a terrible decision by FedEx. I am sure whoever made the decision did not really think through the ramifications! I suggest you make this request!

What a terrible decision. Thank you for the info about getting a new number. I can’t imagine what was so hard about simply keeping our ee numbers except they were so short.

I called Davis, they put me through to FedEx Retirement Benefits who then transferred me to Davis Security, a special team, in New York! That was the route I took. I do not have the number of the security team in New York! Davis Vision’s number is - (518) 220-6000 or you can call FedEx Retirement Benefits!

Update on Davis Vision Social Security issue—- I just received a call from Davis Vision and because this concern was raised FedEx is looking at a way to resolve it across the board for all. I understand Davis Vision was never for this solution. They did give me my employee number as my account number reinstated. So I am guessing there will be more to come with this issue. FYI

Separated Healthcare sort of explains the lack of communication between FedEx and the vendors trying to help us. On another note - I still never received my Pre 65 RHPA Welcome Kit. I have my reimbursment set up. I just hope there is no deadline type information in the packet I need to know about.

Subject: New tax law-Seniors:
Jimmy Glenn Burk1/18/2018
New tax law-Seniors:I still haven't figured out if I pay more taxes with the new law...it looks like I will due to the property tax limitation, but being over 65 has this benefit:
-----------------------------
The GOP tax overhaul kept this $1,300 tax break for seniors
• GOP bill doubles standard deduction to $12,000 for singles, $24,000 for married couples.
• Individuals over 65 or blind -- and married -- can claim at least $1,300 more in deductions.
• The break is $1,600 for singles.Seniors can still grab this tax break under the new tax law: the additional standard deduction.
The "Tax Cuts and Jobs Act," which President Donald Trump signed into law on Dec. 22, doubles the standard deduction to $12,000 for single filers and $24,000 for joint filers who are married.
The legislation also leaves intact the additional standard deduction for filers who are 65 and over or blind, allowing them to claim an additional $1,300 when they file their 2018 taxes.
This means that two married taxpayers who are both over 65 can lower their taxable income by an extra $2,600.
Single filers who are blind or over 65 are eligible for a $1,600 additional standard deduction, on top of the $12,000 they get from the new tax law.
Laura Ladd Beard1/18/2018
Laura Ladd Beard
FYI
For what’s its worth and, I may be wrong, but I think there still is a deduction for property taxes but it is capped.
The new tax law also places a $10,000 cap on the amount of state and local property taxes -- plus income or sales taxes -- filers can deduct.
Edited · 2 ·
Mark W Evans1/18/2018
Mark W Evans
Laura, you are correct. The 10K cap is for all state and local taxes (income and property)
2 ·
Laura Ladd Beard1/18/2018
Laura Ladd Beard
Mark W Evans thanks! we live in north Mississippi so our property taxes and state income taxes are low. Unless we have to ‘cash in’ some investments or buy multiple cars, we won’t come close to the cap. That’s a good thing.
2 ·
Mark W Evans1/18/2018
Mark W Evans
Laura, many people who use to itemized might find themselves using just the standard deduction come time to file next year for 2018 taxes.
2 ·
Ray Lipham1/19/2018
Ray Lipham
The $1,300 over 65 exemption was already in place before the new tax law. It is $1,250 for 2017 and the IRS had already planned to increase it to $1,300 for 2018 before the tax law changes. The biggest negative for most ordinary folks in the new tax bill is the loss of the personal exemption which was scheduled to be $4,150 in 2018 before the tax law changes. For a married couple that does not itemize deductions, the standard deduction increased from $13,000 to $24,000 but that was offset by the loss of the personal exemption which means their taxable income only decreased by $2,700 under the new law. {$24,000 (new standard deduction) minus $13,000 (old 2018 standard deduction) minus $8,300 ($4,150 personal exemption times two for married couple) = $2,700}
But the people who really get hurt by the loss of the personal exemption are those who itemize. For each dollar of itemized deductions they have over the standard deduction, they lose a dollar of the $2,700 decrease that the non-itemizers got in taxable income. For example, a married couple with $13,001 in itemized deductions would have a $2,699 decrease in taxable income under the new law. {$24,000 (new standard deduction) minus $13,001 (itemized deductions) minus $8,300 ($4,150 personal exemption times two for married couple) = $2,699} What that means is that anyone with itemized deductions in excess of $2,700 above the standard deduction of $13,000 would experience an increase in their taxable income under the new law. For example, a married couple with $18,000 in itemized deductions would have an increase of $2,300 in taxable income under the new law. {$24,000 (new standard deduction) minus $18,000 (itemized deductions) minus $8,300 ($4,150 personal exemption times two for married couple) = -$2,300} If a married couple has itemized deductions in excess of $24,000, then they will have an increase in taxable income of $8,300 under the new law, which is equal to the lost personal deduction.
Of course, everyone will benefit from the lower tax rates, but some folks will benefit more than others.😏

I've used interline discounts on both Carnival and Royal Caribbean. What I usually do is find the cruise and deal I want on dargal.com, which shows the interline rates. Then call the cruise line and ask for the interline rate. If you cruise at the right time of year, you can get some fantastic deals. Usually, the off season is where the best discounts are.

I am over 65 so already had an account set up at one exchange, so I just logged on, clicked on FUNDS and ReImbursments. then there is a link to take you to the ReImbursement Center. There is info on the site on how to send information about getting re-imbursed from a bill you already have received, and how to set it up recurring.
https://medicare.oneexchange.com/
This may be different if you are under 65, I didn't get any info about this, except from others on this facebook group.
You may had to set up your initial account with one exchange by doing it online or calling them.

1. Communications Discounts (nternet discount - FedEx does $100's of Millions of dollars with vendors each year. There used to be a base rate for employees for home internet access which no longer exists. That would be beneficial for employees and retirees.).

Yea to all of us...FedEx is re-enforcing retirement funds
----
FedEx made an announcement earlier today about our commitment of more than $3.2 billion in wage increases, bonuses, pension funding and expanded U.S. capital investment following the passage of the Tax Cuts and Jobs Act. You can access the media release here.
Like you, I’m proud that FedEx has opted to use the benefits of the reformed tax code to continue to invest in our dedicated employees, as well as our business. For our employees, we’ll see that investment in multiple ways:
• We’re investing over $200 million in increased compensation, about two-thirds of which will go to hourly team members domiciled in the U.S. by advancing 2018 annual pay increases by six months to April 1st from the normal October date. The remainder will fund increases in Annual Incentive Compensation (AIC) for salaried personnel. The details of the process for the hourly employee pay increase and your operating company’s specific AIC plan will be shared over the coming weeks.
• A voluntary contribution of $1.5 billion to the FedEx pension plan to ensure it remains one of the best funded retirement programs in the country.
Investments in our business infrastructure, like the $1.5 billion for the FedEx Express Indianapolis hub, help secure our long-term future success. The Memphis SuperHub will also be modernized and enlarged in a major program with details to be announced later this year. As customer demands continue to increase, expansion and technology investments today will help us meet and exceed those expectations in the future.
This is yet another way we live by our People-Service-Profit operating philosophy. Each element — People, Service and Profit — is essential for the success of FedEx, and each must be in balance with the others to remain an efficient business model. Our People emphasis produces outstanding Service for customers, which in turn produces the Profit required to fund our future and reward our People, and so it goes — each aspect of P-S-P is integral to the whole.
Thank you for all you do to deliver the Purple Promise to make every FedEx experience outstanding for each other and our customers.Frederick W. Smith
Chairman and CEO

For this I am very grateful. I am also grateful for the subsidy FedEx provides its retirees for insurance premiums for health coverage. I'm set and able to use the system, as it is the same system I was using before when it was $1020/year. My only question continues to be - Why did I at 71 years of age get the same subsidy as people I know who are in their late 80's or 90's. My $11,000 subsidy will last me 10.8 years if I manage it at the rate of $1020/year. If I were 81, it will last me the same amount of time. If I were 91, it would still only last 10.8 years. That doesn't seem right from an actuarial standpoint. I understand why those who are not on Medcare yet would require more given that premiums for some approach $1000/month. But our premiums (as retirees) are going up every year just like our peers who are not on medicare. My husband's Part D supplement went up from $73/month to $88/month this year. Mine went up less than that - but probably the same percentage. Our supplemental health policy is also going up each year (I don't remember if it is only because of the initial discounts which we were given through AARP, but I think that is why. Again, I'm grateful. But there are still lots and lots of questions which simply have not been answered.

Since now there’s enough money to really put to use, spend it down ASAP. Enough there now to pay for Medicare part B and D and and whatever supplement you have. If you pass away before it’s gone, it goes back to the company. I’m using the HRA funding now and banking the savings each month.

I’m sure many of you pre-65 retirees are as anxious as I am, to see if my “automatic” monthly premium reimbursement will work as planned on 2/1/2018.Yesterday I logged on to the FedEx Healthcare website to look at my RHPA.When I select the option to "Manage My Auto Reimbursement", my line item for February has a switch labeled "Auto-Reimbursement" and the "ON" option is highlighted in green!So.....I’m cautiously optimistic it will work as advertised but not spending the $$$ yet! 😆

For any 65 older... still trying to find your reimbursements...after spending hours being transferred around as Aon or One Exchange could not find that I existed with FedEx. Tried again last week and one rep who handled pre -65 took upon herself to check in her area. Boom ..they found me in pre 65 area. Set up case and transferred me to the reimbursement dept. They have now confirmed my RHRA deposit of $11,000 and sent forms to me to get it going. Now working on getting my husbands in place. Keep the faith! It's quite a challenge but determination does pay off.

Yes he was on my insurance and he is post 65 also. I just retired in Dec. We both went on Medicare this month. We set up our own supplement so the rep that found me is thinking because I did not go thru Aon I was put in pre-65 group. I do know that you have to "create case to find employee and confirm spouse info" Then you are assigned a #. The dept that handles reimbursements can't do anything without that file #.

Well, the FedEx Retiree Club (ferc1.org) has done all we can do. We were trying to gather questions and consolidate them and get with one contact at FedEx to get official answers. Told today that HIPPA would prevent doing that (I tried to explain we were not asking for one person, we were consolidating for multiple people). It has really been an exercise in frustration. Definitely not the Benefits Department in place before I retired!!!!

I am very dis-enchanted with One Exchange. Their level of service is piss poor. I hope there are performance metrics in place to capture the overall service level. FedEx Benefit personnel isn’t as knowledgeable about the process to advise of next steps with OE. So we as clients are left on a merry-go-round not know what, when, etc. I have been working a claim since mid-December and still no resolution.
Martha Thomas1/31/2018
Martha Thomas
I'm working one on one with the lady who has never filed a claim to see if we can at least get one going for something!!!! Just getting her account set up will help. She at least will have telephone numbers to call for help once we get her account set up. I would have thought that, after a few years of no claims, someone at Towers Perrin (One Exchange) would have let FedEx know that a retiree wasn't using their money so that FedEx Benefits could have called them and offered help.

That is one of my main concern is there is no follow up from them. If they experienced a problem with your claim, documentation, etc. they set it aside and wait for you to call. Poor and unacceptable business practice. FedEx Benefit should have administered the program and not involved a third party. I guess Michael Jackson was right, “They Don’t Really Care About Us.”

My automatic reimbursement was deposited in the bank last night, Feb 1st, 3 days after it was posted online. This is for Jan. As I mentioned in a previous post, I sent the paperwork to One Exchange via US mail. It took 4.5 weeks to process which included 2 holidays. Patience is the key. Also was told my One exchange to NOT resend as it would cause confusion.

On Feb. 1, forty-five years ago six people gathered together in a cold, dusty hanger at the MEM airport and in a manner of speaking, ITD was born. It was a great opportunity to join a unique venture and work in what became the wonderful world of FDX. Through the years many exciting accomplishments have occurred for which ITD employees, past and present, can take great pride. On this date and speaking for those first 6 people, please allow me to celebrate that obscure bit of history when I say “we were the first”. I hope the same sense of kinship and purpose is still felt by those there today.
Jimmy Glenn Burk2/1/2018
Early Computing Environment in 1974 (Interview with Chuck Graham)
"In 1974 the head of the IT department was Leon Tyree. Chuck was the 7th programmer hired by Leon Tyree and Wes Terry;
The first programmers I worked with were, Larry Brock, Jere Bledsoe, Bill Stuart, Colen Kelly Steward, Don Rose and Jimmy Fuller. Larry only worked for 2 months and Jimmy for 3 months after I was hired. We were back to five programmers for a few months before other programmers were hired.
(Chuck arrived in March of 1974 when the package count was 6000 per night(on a good night), with a goal of 10,000 by December of that year.)
Chuck:
I started working at Quince in the old RCA Building.
We then moved to Southaven, Mississippi for 4-5 months, then to the Airport hangar, then to Nonconnah.
We were using time rented on a Burrroughs 3500 , then went to B6700. We eventually had three Burrough's 6700 Mainframes.
In the very early days, Ron Ponder & Charlie Brandon would work on a computer model of routing/hubs and Chuck remembers the Burroughs 3500 would slow almost to a halt when their application ran. (Ron was a PHd from Univ of Memphis and later became CIO of FedEx).
The future didn't look bright in 1974. We lived paycheck to paycheck.
In 1977-78 we got our first Boeing 727 with deregulation.
Who made a real difference in the early years?
Pete Wilmott. He came in 1974 and the company was in financial trouble. He negotiated a $50M loan with his connections. He also brought financial accountability.
Art Bass was an original consultant and was instrumental in getting compliance up. It started at 30% and went to 99%.
What made FedEx successful?
We worked hard and did what was required. People and their drive, we bled purple, we had will and desire to make the company successful; and Fred was the leader in Innovation.
What else was innovative and made FedEx successful?
The airbill was innovative. It was attached to the invoice and sent to customer service for billing and onto the customer. We called this "Country Club Billing".
What are you most proud of?
Working on the Billing Systems, origin-destination and back to origin billing; and my role in Imaging and DCI at FedEx.
Chuck wrote the first pilots payroll program with David Kasper(a pilot); parts of that 1976 program is still running in the company;
It began with 80 column card input....
The Revenue department would key info from the airbill to punch cards for batch billing processing"
(End of Chuck Interview)

Don Rose2/3/2018
Actually, Jimmy Fuller was hired as a Couputer Operator and wrote code for a very short period of time before he followed Larry to Dobbs House. Our first computer was a B2700 and it was housed in the RCA building on Raines. We moved to a B6700 and dual 6700s before moving to IBM mainframes in 1978. The 6700s were housed in the Admin Building, between Hangers 7 & 8.

How time passes/Good Times
38 years ago today, I believe, I walked into Clark Tower as an Engineer in Telecommunications. I had been offered the job six weeks earlier, but had chosen not to start until after major internal ear reconstruction.Within a week, I had met Ancel Hankins, Terry Cox, Dick Winter, Greg Woychik, Jim Moore, Jim Bentley, Richard Dunn, John Schwarzmann, Gary Ragsdale, Susan Wright, Chuck Jowers, Frank Sutherland, Randy Roy, Fred Rice, and Jim Barksdale.Within a month I was working 60-80 hours a week, either at work or home to finish our assigned project, but it didn't seem like work, it was major fun at the time. I'm so happy my wife and kids didn't kick me out of the house....I've literally met thousands of co-workers since, many whom I still get to see from time to time.I have 2 sons, 2 brothers and 3 other relatives still at the company, and I hope their memories will be as half as good as mine, when they retire.

Interesting how involved upper mgmt was in projects and individuals in the early days.
It might have due to the fact there was a smaller( about 200 total) staff in IT at the time, including about 60 in COS.
I was hired to develop a communications software interface so that DADs on a Dec PDP-11/34 could connect the COSMOS IBM system to the couriers via a radio terminal(MDI). The vendor had promised this to Jim Barksdale and had failed. Evidently Jim called DEC upper management after I made contact with their technical staff and asked them was I going to be able to deliver. They told him yes, and if I didn't stay with FedEx, they would hire me.
JLB came to meet me and tell me what they said and asked what I needed. I had to wait on hardware to be delivered, and told him although there was a travel freeze, a one week DEC course would speed up the process and I could be ready when the communications board arrived. JLB said no problem, you can have two weeks, and go as soon as possible.
So, Jim Bentley and I took off to Los Angeles. I had just had major ear surgery so got a major cold from the airplane ride. So I was sick as a dog on the trip.
Jim is a fun and interesting character, and still is today, and I always enjoyed travelling with him.
After I delivered the communications interface, JLB came down and sent me and my wife to Justines...he said just tell them to put on his account and that would take care of it. He did this again when I helped fix the SuperHub computer systems.
There were many other stories where JLB was aware of individual employees situations, that you might think someone at his level would know about or even care, but he did.
I remember stories especially about Ron Ponder and Rob Carter also being aware and caring about individual employee situations.
It's still a great company, just a very very large company now....

Jimmy, when I started working in Telecom, I remember hearing people talk about how amazing you were and I can’t recall who I heard say it but it was your “skills were untouchable”. I personally loved working with you even though my position was in the admin field during that time. I loved hearing how you had one day a week you would take your wife to lunch and a movie. You and Ray are truly the kindest men I’ve ever known...besides David Hall.

Pre - 65 RHPA money. I thought other RedEx Retirees might benefit from this information obtained from Your Spending Account (aka. Hewitt) I saw a message on the Recent Activity section on the web site that read 'Scheduled Premium Auto-Reinbursement' and it was date 2/5/2018. I'm thinking that means I will get my deposit on the 5th. Today is the 6th and there is no deposit amount on the web site or money in my checking account so I called. The really nice girl tells me that the deposits are made between the 6th & 9th. I don't know about you but not having that amount of money in my checking account is very noticiable especially since I paid my premium on the 1st. At 1:00 today the Cigna Reinbursement amount showed up in the Recent Activity section of the web site. At lease I now have confirmation the direct deposit has been processed. Now I wait another day or 3 for it to get in the bank.

Although I consider it a great and wonderful thing to be covered by Medicare on February 1, it has not been without its problems. I got my letter from Cigna saying that my coverage would end when I became eligible for Medicare. No problem. However, my husband still needs the medical coverage as he will not be 65 until 2019 (I am a cougar). In December, I receive a letter from the retirement benefits group explaining the costs for his coverage on 2/1. It gave me the cost for medical+dental+vision. Since he did not have dental or vision, I called them. I was told that indeed he did not have dental or vision and the letter must have been a mistake. On 2/1, our checking account was charged for his medical insurance plus dental and vision. I called again and was told that the charge was in error and I would receive a refund in a few weeks for the overcharge. Then, today, he goes to the pharmacy to pick up his medications for the month and was told his medical coverage ended on 1/31. After I called Cigna and the pharmacy called Cigna, we find out he has a new id number and the request to send his new card was made on 2/5 (he should receive it in 7-10 days). Cigna gave the pharmacy the new id number and he got his meds. I have delayed claiming any reimbursements for medical premium expenses until I get this all settled.

Okay so I am not actually that calm because I pressed ENTER too soon. Item #1 is dial 1-866-682-4741 and you will hear "Thank you for calling Towers Watson's One Exchange formerly Extend Health the endorsed health insurance solutions provider for FedEx Freight. Please listen carefully as our menus have changed..."
1 ·
Elizabeth Ward Blaylock2/7/2018
Elizabeth Ward Blaylock
My question is what word seems out of place in the automated greeting: (a) solutions (b) FedEx Freight (c) endorsed? Item #2 learned today is that if you electronically submit a claim on 1/23 and it takes this group of outsourced nice employees until 2/5 to log the claim due to the high volume they have another 10 business days from 2/5 to "process" it. This whole retiree medical insurance has become a farce. The outsourced employees of Towers Watson One Exchange, Your Spending Account and the "FedEx Benefits Department" do not have the training to perform the basics of their job and they certainly are not empowered to resolve the simplest of issues. Shame on Human Resources and anyone who even tries to endorse this fiasco. This is not the Corporation that Tom Peters wrote about In Search of Excellence.

Jimmy, when Sue was planning our trip to Glacier a few years back, she made sure to pick a time when Going To The Sun road would be open (not blocked by snow). My recollection is that we visited early July and the road was open, but there were fields of snow in places. We had driven there from Washington state, going through the park and staying on the east side at St. Mary Lodge. Sue had made the reservations in January for our July stay and all we could get was some crappy old, dimly lit, drafty cabin across the street from their nice lodge. So if you stay there, make sure that you get the lodge building. We did two guided hikes and a boat tour on one of the lakes. All worthwhile activities. From Glacier we drove up to the adjoining Waterton Lakes National Park in Canada where we took a boat tour that went south over the border into the U.S. where we could stamp our own passports at a stop on the lake. Huh? Never had that happen before. You might want to visit and/or stay at the beautiful Prince of Wales Hotel. It has a great setting on the lake. Hope this helps. Main advice - make reservations at Glacier early. -Bob

My personal bank account shows I have a “pending deposit” for my February pre-65 Retirement Healthcare Premium reimbursement. That means my $$$ will be available to me on the 14th of this month. In January, my $$$ was available to me on the 9th day of the month.So.....the “automated process” took 5 days longer than the “manual process”!!!As a retired FedEx IT professional, I’m fairly certain that if the systems I designed & implemented during my career had been “that automated”, I would never have had the chance to retire at FedEx! I would’ve probably been involved in yesterday’s “march for $15 an hour”! 😆😆😆Just my thoughts.....🤔🤔🤔

I've got a stupid question and somewhat embarrassed to be asking about it. I retired in 2014 and elected to go on my wife's insurance program (American Airlines) since it was cheaper and she plans to work until I turn 65 in a couple years. Anyway, I continue to receive info from Fedex about my Fedex retiree health reimbursement account. Today, I received a letter stating my balance as of 1/25/18 is $20,000 and my wife's is $22,000. I am assuming this is a mistake (one of those outsourced things), but am I missing something? Appreciate any insight!

Note: Thomas Blass posted a well written note supporting FedEx from a person boycotting any group that supported the NRA which included FedEx; His post wasn't overtly political and I support his opinion. But to ensure that this group doesn't start debating anything close to political or emotional issues, I deleted it. You can go to Thomas' timeline and see his note if you want.In the future if you are posting anything that you think is politically or really sensitive, it is fine to post a note on this group and refer back to your own timeline to see the note.I didn't want to get overly wordy with this note, but this group was formed for employees of ITD, and later any FedEx employees to drop a note on where they are, and how they are doing and to exchange information.thanks,

I was jumpseating, landing in MEM. We banked for our landing and alarms started going off. I do know we were banking pretty far and the pilot said he was taking it off auto pilot. I was told to never talk to the pilots until they taked to you first so I never asked what happened but I was confident the pilots knew what to do.

It was one of the programs that came out of the "Green Team". There was also a program called Magic Window that I worked on with McArtor who eventually became VP of Satellite Systems. I worked for Allen on Magic Window and in Satellite Systems. Many FedEx folks don't know that we had a program called Express Star to launch a telecommunications Satellite. Two were being built by MACOM. The program was cancelled shortly after the Challenger explosion since it moved the launch date years into the future.

Magic Window was a CAT III C landing system that could be installed in any aircraft and be used at any airport that had at least an ILS. Simply put it consisted of a 60 gigahz radar, FLIR and was projected with a HUD. This type of system opened up most airports in the US to zero zero landings for such equipped aircraft. At the time there were few Cat III airports and aircraft equipped with CAT III equipment. Art Bass was also involved with the program. While the system showed promise as the major components existed new equipment on the more modern aircraft FedEx was purchasing and internal politics killed the program.

You are right Kathy, It was also to be used for internal communications. Would you believe that the transmission speed was only 56 KB!!! Today we would consider that crawling when out home computers see speeds of 100 Mbps to 300 Mpbs!!!

Yes, we had "T lines" for IBM and some others, the standard modem was 9.6 KB. They were exciting times. When the Challenger exploded we had a group from NASA in our office going over the CPM charts for the launch of Express Starr. I left the meeting because I had something to do at home. I was watching the launch on TV. I called the office and told Gina to have that NASA team call in to their office. Very sad day....

Rogers Gossett I have some pictures somewhere try to findings them. The reason for two aircraft is the 727 was a -100 which was taken out of service shortly after the naming and I got a memo saying that a DC 10 would be assigned the name.

Well, it's very interesting on the -10 because 301 shows on the 'donated' list as 301FX, named 'Braun', donated to Orbis in March 2010. That comes from inTRAnet info.. but the rest of the inTERnet reflects a 301FE being donated to Orbis in 2010. Kinda odd.... and a little frustrating. I was hoping to find some pics, as I was anticipating it may have been converted to an MD-10 and still in service. Unfortunately, 301anything doesn't show up on a list of current/active airframes.

While Federal Express was in Little Rock, they searched for a consultant firm to do one thing. The best prices they could get was $100K; a young man flew his own Cessna plane from the West Coast to Little Rock to convince Fred Smith to use his new company. 1 ·
Jimmy Glenn Burk3/18/2018
Richard's answer was correct: "the original Federal Express logo was designed by Richard Runyon in 1973"; he flew his own Cessna from California to Little Rock, to meet FWS and convince him, that his small company was the one to design the logo. He recommended that FedEx really not have a separate Logo, but just have it's name in a different font. His reasons were that the company was new and innovative and rather than have customers try to figure out whose logo they were looking at...just have them look at the name.

Which of the following was NOT a Reason that Cook Industries sold their IT department to Federal Express in the late 70's:
a. needed money
b. Successful Russian Wheat harvest
c. under Federal lawsuit
d. needed smaller IBM system
Winn Stephenson3/13/2018
Winn Stephenson
In the late 70's, IBM was THE provider of large scale computers for business solutions. PC's and mini-computers were in their infancy. FedEx was a Burroughs shop and Fred wanted to move to IBM to handle the anticipated needs. So, the acquisition of Cook Systems achieved two goals - 1) Trained IBM systems staff and 2) IBM mainframes. The very large IBM mainframes (360-65's) were in great demand and hard to get. But Cook had already placed on order two of the largest mainframes and had an early ship date. He got Jim Barksdale as a bonus. Of course today an iPhone is about as powerful as a 360-65. Long answer to the question.
5 ·
Ben Moore3/14/2018

Weren't those 2 360-65s really ONE MP65? And they were named Mary and John?

Winn Stephenson3/14/2018

2 ·
Jimmy Glenn Burk3/16/2018
Answer: D. needed smaller IBM system
Cook at one time was the 3rd largest commodity company in the world. When the Russian wheat harvest failed and the USSR couldn't feed it's people, it asked to purchase huge quantities of grain from the US. The govt agreed as long as the grain was put on U.S. ships.
Cook made tens of millions of dollars providing this grain for a couple years. One year the management of Cook decided to corner the market and purchase future commodities, expecting Russia to fail once again. But Russia had a pretty good harvest, and purchased less grain, leaving Cook in trouble. The company was sued by the Federal Govt. Some management were arrested for shipping low quality product with rocks in it, and even a rusty automobile was inside one shipment, and of bribing port authorities to sign off. A couple of people went to jail. Mr. Cook was cleared of any wrong doing.
Cook had many IT employees leave, and did a forced layoff and was short of money and holding millions of orders for grain they couldn't sell.
As Winn mentioned parallel to the Cook issues, Federal Express was growing leaps and bounds and were outgrowing their Burroughs 6700 mainframes. They wanted the largest system Burroughs made (B7700) delivered asap, but there was a 2 year wait list, and Burroughs management wasn't helpful at all.
Charlie Brandon's group looked at getting larger B7700 systems, using lan based Digital Equip mini computers, and IBM. And Cook had on order the newest of IBM mainframes with an early delivery date.
A deal was worked out, when Pete Wilmott talked to Jim Barksdale at church one Sunday.
So, in a matter of a day or two, a deal was struck where Federal would take over Cook's IT employees, it's existing Data Processing business, and it's orders for the newer IBM system.
Federal continued to process Cook's IT stuff for a couple years until that business was sold...and Federal Express entered the IBM mainframe world.

We had the same thing with the Challenger disaster. It pushed the deployment of Express Star out several years. Satellite Systems folded. From what I understand the names of the employees were sent to other departments to fill openings. It was almost like the NFL draft. As a former IE from Methods Engineering I was going to bid for either Corporate IE or Aircraft Engineering. But as it turned out as I said our names were sent to other departments to fill openings. Rudy Yates Manager of GSE Engineering and Ron Wickens from Aircraft Engineering both selected me. Rudy told Ron that he needed a container, cargo systems person so I would actually be working for both groups. In short, I never got to bid but, as it turned out it was the best thing that ever happened. So much so, I was on Fred's roll a desk and did many special projects for him. Sometimes fate can be a good thing!

Answer: FedEx's inhouse Print Shop
Zapmail shutdown was around the mid 80's, I think 1986. This group of 60 was the printing and publishing group, where the company was bringing the printing in house. As I remember a small group of employees decided they needed a union, and the company decided it didn't. The printing was then outsourced as it was originally. The group was reclassified as training since a good number of individuals had graphics and arts experience.

In the late 90's, an MD and about 90 people in this group, were displaced @ FedEx and offered new jobs in a local Memphis company. Their 90 open positions were then moved to start a new IT department in Dallas Tx.

Some Exec wanted to open an IT shop in the Dallas area to attract new technology talent. Forgot the part about our FedEx folks going to the other IT shops there. March 8, 1995.
Sr FedEx IT folks wanted to open a Dallas IT branch and needed the current jobs of “faithful FedEx employees” to use to start the Dallas site .
So, those faithful employees were “effectively displaced”! They were told they could:
(1) bid on the new Dallas jobs (but with new job descriptions, many didn’t qualify)
(2) JCA to existing openings within FedEx (but there were very few openings)
(3) leave the company and work for Seltman, Cobb & Bryant (a local contracting IT firm).
If they chose #3 they would effectively be working to support the same systems they had supported for years, just no longer as a FedEx employee.
Many of these displaced employees suffered greatly because of this injustice. (A lot of friends of mine!)
A sad day for FedEx, in my opinion!
3 ·
Jimmy Glenn Burk3/24/2018
Answer: The above answers are correct.
a: Why were they displaced?
The group under Steve Steilling was effectively outsourced to SCB in Memphis and all were offered positions doing their same jobs but with a different company. As far as I can determined, exec mgmt wanted groups to move their apps to unix/c ie away from Cobol. This group hadn't and SCB committed to taking the outsource contract and offer jobs to those employees. Their open positions were moved to Dallas to start an AGFS development dept doing applications off mainframe.
b. what was the outside company
SCB
c. how many took the jobs?
If my memory is correct, it was less than 3, and SCB had to hire about 40 new people
Several years later, all this work was moved back into FedEx, but many of the applications had been developed in LHSD requiring only about a dozen new programmers to support the apps.
Even though Steve Steilling and his group was displaced, Steve worked tirelessly to find other jobs inside the company for the majority of his group that didn't want to take the SCB offer. He then left the company.

When Terry left the dc10 to come to the md11 (because I think he was tired of bidding behind Ralph Boen #21), it was sometime around 1997, during the FCH days and Terry had to sit reserve (having just come out of md11 training). He called me up to explain to him how it worked because he said it'd been so long since he'd done it. "Please just let me go fly anything so I don't have to sit on call!" lol.
I've been out of scheduling for about 14 years now, and so I've forgotten some of the really low numbered guys that I'd run across. Bernie Bourgeois .. he might have been #199, I think. Buck Micheel was around #256 or so... There was a ____ Brown who was #77.. I just forget since most all of them are long retired now. Wil Wilhoit was in the backseat of the 10 forever and he had a low number.. maybe flew into his low 80s.. he operated P-51 mustangs during WW2 (!!)

I did 7 years in Scheduling (1997-2004) and nobody really wanted to work the -11 desk, so I got stuck with it ... I was grateful that I got "stuck" with it because I liked dealing with the real old timers. By and large, the old purple guys were so easy to deal with. Most of the silver guys (on the 11) didn't give me any problems, but trying to deal with ANC (mostly silver/96ers back then) during salmon season was awfully trying. I've never been fishing in Alaska my entire life, and I still know that most of salmon season runs Jun-Jul-Aug. lol

I am not pre-65, i am post 65, and no problems, but i have been helping 2 friends on their pre-65, and yes it has a lot of bugs to be ironed out. I also have heard from someone that Fedex messed up and has been giving some people these re-imbursements that are not due it, and they, fedex is asking for repayment. That would be a hardship on some. I don’t think this program was a well thought out thing.

This is what the Your Spending Account has published on the web site about Cobra Premiums. COBRA is not reimbursable from the RHPA for the active COBRA plan (i.e. Employee retires and extends active coverage through COBRA for 18 months or less). COBRA is reimbursable from the RHPA for the retiree COBRA plan only (e.g., In the event of a qualifying event, such as divorce, resulting in the spouse losing eligibility for FedEx Retiree
Health Plan, the spouse can choose to extend FedEx Retiree Health Plan under COBRA) I found this information under the Knowledge Center.

Thanks Deborah for showing me this. I wonder why Cobra is not covered? Does anybody know??
Liddie Money Frederick3/25/2018

Wow, that is so helpful, that is why my two FedEx friends are having problems with getting their's reimbursed, I need to tell them. As I understand it, COBRA allows for continued group health insurance coverage after an employee is terminated/retires, but the insured bears the full cost of the premium.

From this month's Parents magazine:
Little boy comes running to his Mother, "Mom, Mom, I saw a truck out front!"
But, by the time they got to the front window, there was no truck in sight.
"What kind of truck was it?"
"Just a truck. I can spell truck, too!"
"Okay, spell truck for me."
"F E D E X", the said proudly!

I understood the corporate logic at the time they communicated the colors but I knew many customers would not understand or care about it. If it said FedEx, it was FedEx and they didn't care what color delivered their package.or box.

I remember when Saturday delivery was proposed. The budget process required you to create DAPs (Detailed Action Plans) to cover any new business processes. Obviously Saturday delivery was represented by DAPs. When we submitted the budget and DAPs, the Saturday delivery DAPs were rejected. The budget was finalized and then Saturday delivery was announced.

FedEx History TriviaI-Services, first Express large personnel reduction, I think, was the offering of retirement packages to over 4,000 FedEx Express employees. It added years to your retirement age and was considered a good deal at the time. FedEx Services employees were not included. Some of the reasons were to reduce costs, but also to reduce the number of people in Express that created tens of thousands of changes requests each month to Info Systems. One month could see 25,000 changes to Mainframe applications alone. All project management people were combined into one project management group in Express after the 4,000 people reduction. How many people were left in this organization, after I-Services?a. 80 b. 200 c. 600 d. 1000
Pat Hardin3/28/2018

Mary A Johnson3/28/2018

A - about as many folks as are left that can spell mainframe
Ray Lipham3/28/2018
Ray Lipham
So, how many people were consolidated into EBS after I-Service? I would have guessed about 300 so I'll go with B since that is closer to 300 than C.
Deby Abbott Jolley3/28/2018
Deby Abbott Jolley
I was in the EBS group - and I'm pretty sure there were 200 of us.
2 ·
Jimmy Glenn Burk3/30/2018
I will defer to Deby's answer. I remember that after I-services they put all the project mgmt and knowlege experts into one group EBS and that there were over 900 people at first. The VP at the time was told that they could only keep a certain number in the group and to reduce the size of the group.
1 ·
Ray Lipham3/31/2018

I looked back at the employee counts I had for Operation Feed and found they agreed with Deby Abbott Jolley 's answer. For 2004, the year after EBS was formed, there were 225 employees in EBS. By 2006, the EBS employee count peaked at 356. By 2012, the last year before EBS was absorbed back into the operational units and Services, the employee count was down to 262.

They would have to be the same in test and prod or the dev work would be 'useless'.
Jimmy Glenn Burk3/31/2018
Answer: They couldn't be used indirectly because of pilot actions and threats.
In the late 90's contract negotiations were ongoing with ALPA. There were a few work slowdowns and a PR campaign to the public telling them that the pilots were demoralized and basically packages from Christmas may not arrive. FWS told the pilots that this was unacceptable and he wasn't investing any more money into the company until they decided what they were going to do. All capital expenditures and new projects were put on hold, which affected using any of the Oracle licenses for new projects.
