I spoke with Alight and they told me the problem was to be resolved tomorrow, 6/27. They explained that the problem was on the FedEx side and wasn't connecting the FedEx account to the VBO HRA account on their side.

Has anyone in FedEx Services that took the 5/31 VBO received their Retiree Badge as yet? I and others I've talked to have not.
Paula Crockett6/28/2019
Paula Crockett
I called and they said that they are backlogged. The number to call is (901)375-6601. I have not gotten mine either.

Laverne Deanes
Paula Crockett back logged as in mailing them out?
Paula Crockett6/28/2019
Paula Crockett
Laverne Deanes as in processing them in. They are processing all badges, not just retirement.
Laverne Deanes6/28/2019
Laverne Deanes
Paula Crockett LOL that doesn't make sense. There were boxes and boxes of retirement badges when I went to pick mine up. Maybe thoses were just for MEM.
Paula Crockett6/29/2019
Paula Crockett
Laverne Deanes they were probably for Mem. When I called their office the guy told me the mix up as to whether they would to the badge trade on that day was because their old manager was leaving and the new one didn't want to do it. I guess since they had made them up he went on with it. I saw my badge, but didn't have the old one to turn in.
Karen Lynn Keywood6/28/2019
Karen Lynn Keywood
I picked mine up at whq on 5.31. I believe that all the MEM badges were there. I saw several hundred of them.

Karen i picked mine up to at WHQ on 5/31. There was so much confusion. Some managers were saying to turn the badges into them, some said go to the WHG.
Edited ·
Paula Crockett6/28/2019

Karen Lynn Keywood the manager of the ID area took the VBO. He said yes, the new manager said no, then they went ahead and did it because some people were expecting it. My manager had me turn in my ID thinking it was still no.

I have not either. I heard a couple of folks picked theirs up at the WHQ. My manager’s email and guide said it would be mailed. Has anyone received their retirement gift information?
Karen Lynn Keywood6/28/2019
Karen Lynn Keywood
Marie McVay the email I got said to pu on 5.31.19 at Whq for Mem folks. It looked like they had several hundred there when I got mine.
Marie McVay6/28/2019
Marie McVay
The email to my manager came out after the email we received so we both thought she had the most current info. Her email had the list of things to collect from me, my ID was one of the items. Everything else went off as planned but had they caught the ID misinformation error, they could have saved a ton of money on mailing them out. Looking forward to my first retirement check in a few days. 😀

They are WAY behind on badges. My SITA badge expired 05/31 and I don't have a replacement yet.
Marty Haywood6/30/2019
Marty Haywood
MEM employees could pick them up on 5/31. I got mine then but when I spoke to the badge folks about non-MEM, they said they were backlogged doing a complete vertical badge replacement. Told me they would be about 30-45 days behind to do everything else.

Just FYI - for those of us that just took the VBO. When you use your VBO HSA card, keep every single receipt (mail order scripts, detailed bills from doctor, Walgreens receipts). My husband recently used the card for the items not covered due to him not having met his company’s deductible. We have had to upload each receipt. The time limit for submission is only a week or so. I am not complaining, just be sure you keep those receipts. 😀 They do have an easy mobile app and online site where you can upload. Enjoy your Friday on Monday tomorrow! 😍

Yes it is important to keep all receipts and to upload them so they will be paid by your HSA card.
Irene Williams7/1/2019

Also, don't upload receipts unless asked to provide them. If you anticipate you will need to do this and upload ahead of time, it creates a duplicate request for the same services/medicines that has to be straightened out. Just some more feedback based on my experiences. The card is good for 5 years or until the balance is zero, whichever comes first.

For VBO HSA folks - I downloaded the mobile app and used it for the first time today. All i did was find the entry in the app, take a picture of the invoice and credit card receipt and upload. So easy.....much faster than navigating the website. So far the app is GREAT!

Ok- retired 18 months ago and chose to Cobra for 18 months to avoid administrative weirdness. Cobra expired yesterday, so today first day to sign up for retiree insurance. Was so proud to work at FedEx for 35 years! Singing up for coverage is a several hour shit show- and I THINK I am enrolled now. But I swear, I THINK I pay insurance and then submit proof I paid and a reimbursement request to my health account??? Every month?I spoke to four different agents.... one was clearly US accent. But jeez...... embarrassing shit show.🙄

I retired via buyout in 2013 and was able to have retiree health thru Cigna. It’s been complicated and every year the rules change but also been somewhat consistent. My sister who turned 65 this year says Medicare and supplemental is way so much easier.

Many of us who retired during the last buyout in 2014/2015 feel your pain. If FedEx misinformed our customers the way we retirees have been misinformed by the vendors, FedEx would not be the multi-billion dollar company it is today. After all of these years you would think the vendor would have all the questions & processes documented with clear easy to understand answers.

Unfortunately, I may have you beat for the “shit show”. Found out late in the show that 2019 Retiree Health Enrollment Guide is wrong regarding being able to continue dental and vision coverage when you turn 65.
I spent hours getting different answers. A newly retired HR person gave me the name of a benefits analyst. Long story, short...the guide was rewritten three years ago and was rewritten incorrectly. The 2020 guide will be correct. In three years, no retiree questioned this section of the guide.
I think I talked with every customer service agent with Hewit.
Denise Wood7/1/2019

Laura Ladd Beard it was a little appalling! I worked at FedEx 35 years, have lived in same home for 25 years, just incredibly boring. I shared that info, along with social, Birthday, etc to 4 different ‘agents’ AFTER I gave that info to the Voice Response Unit. It has spooked me a bit! Retirement may end up being a wander thru the competency desert!
And just think, as folks go, we are the super lucky ones! Weird to me.

I questioned it late last year and finally the Benefits agent at Hewitt said yes I couldnget the dental and told me to call WageWorks and everything could be set up. Laura Ladd Beard oh, maybe not the same. I didn’t have a buyout. Just retired.
Laura Ladd Beard7/6/2019

Jeanene Tjaden me too. No buyout. I think we are talking about the same HRA. The amount was based on age. My monthly insurance premium was about$1,300 a month and I submitted the full amount to be reimbursed from the HRA until I used all the funds. It’s strictly up to the individual how much you request to be reimbursed each month.

2 ·
Jeanene Tjaden7/6/2019
Jeanene Tjaden
Gary Phillips what I meant was the HRA account.. Health Reimbursement Account. Is that what you meant?
Gary Phillips7/6/2019
Gary Phillips
Jeanene Tjaden think of it as a HSA (spending account) for the VBO folks (can spend on most healthcare) and an HRA account ($$$ depends on age at time of retirement) for the retirees. This one is for ins premiums only. If you took VBO and retirement, you get both. Since YOU didn't do the VBO, you only get the HRA for retirees......helps with insurance premiums after you leave. Can be FedEx retiree ins or Medicare Part B, etc.
I hope that helps a little. I was trying to include both to clarity.
Even before all of this, there was an $85 per month reimbursement for insurance such as MEDICARE SUPPLEMENTS. That's gone and replaced by the one time payout for premiums.
Again, all you should be concerned about is the one time lump sum for premiums.
Gosh, I hope I got that all right. It's been 6 years since I filed anything.

Gary PhillipsI would love who owns those accounts! As in who profits if we get frustrated out of using it down? Is it like the STAMPS program? High profit because half of them get lost....why else would you make it so hard?
Laura Ladd Beard7/6/2019
Laura Ladd Beard
Jeanene Tjaden my strategy was to get reimbursed as quickly as possible for as much as possible. My lump sum was $20k. I submitted my entire premium for 18 months and all $20k is now in my credit union account. Working on doing the same thing for my husband’s lump sum. I would rather manage the money myself. You never know when things might change.
Gary Phillips7/6/2019
Gary Phillips
Denise Wood that's never been very clear. I didn't think a real HSA could be depleted or unused. I had always thought they just rolled over to the next year but the one we had was for 5 years. Maybe those are the ones you contribute to.

Anyone who took VBO and activated COBRA has an active OptiumRX benefit right now? I can't get prescriptions and I am getting the run around. Anthem tells me to call OptiumRx, OptiumRx tells me to call cobra/wageworks and wageworks tells me there is nothing they can do.This is the most poorly managed process ever.
Don Beethe7/2/2019
Don Beethe
I just hit the same issue. I'm on the phone with cobra now. Got transferred there from Anthem Was told it can take 5-7 days for payments to go thru. I was told OptumRX is active the first time I called Anthem and then when I went to the pharmacy I was told the Optum cards went inactive on Sunday. Called Anthem, got transferred twice and wound up with wageworks. Told them I need prescriptions yesterday. They called Optum and apparently we are valid but it may take till end of day to show active

Maybe this is common knowledge, but I discovered that making your COBRA payment to BeneDirect WageWorks needs to occur before the due date. I made my payment on July 1, they received it July 2. In the mean time, they made my insurance coverage inactive on July 1. I was unable to follow up on a drug order placed at OptumRX because my account was inactive. Luckily, the order was placed on June 30. The WageWorks customer support said that payment needed to be made before the due date in order to prevent any lapse of coverage. Hmmm, my wife Jane, who spent 26 years as a DB at FedEx said it sounds like they have a data definition issue; Due Date versus Payment Processing Date. Just FYI for anyone else that took the VBO, and is on COBRA.
Allen Bell7/3/2019

After all the other challenges, I wondered about that very thing. They said we had a grace period, but I wasn’t very trusting. I paid a couple days early. Glad I did now!

Of historical note: When Flying Tigers was integrated into Express, I think over 1/2 of Flying Tigers previous business was lost the first year. Freight forwarders that delivered freight for Tigers didn't want to use Federal Express who, from their perspective, was also competing with them to deliver freight to the customers. But Express got landing rights around the world with that purchase.

It has now been two months since I opened an Urgent trouble ticket with FedEx regarding the transfer of HRA funds from my wife's Cigna HRA account into Connectyourcare. She was refunded 120.19 back to her Cigna HRA account in March of 2019 after the yearly rollover. The refund was for service in 2018. No one seems to know how to make this happen. Sounds simple enough to me, transfer 120.19 from Cigna to ConnectYourCare. Every five days I get a call or email from Fedex informing me they need more time. I told them today, I need a resolution. Fedex it seems has left it up to ConnectYourCare and Cigna to work it out. and has stepped back. So I told them today Fedex needs to step in and get this resolved. The Retiree Health Care problems continue long after retirement. I have been retired since 2004. No excuse for this poor service.

Does one of your local TV stations have a consumer reporter? Companies don’t like negative publicity.
It’ll get the attention of someone higher up who can apply pressure to straighten this out. Won’t hurt to try.

Doing a tweet about it on Twitter frequently gets the attention needed for resolution of a problem. It was worked for me several times. Be sure to tag all of the impacted companies: Cigna, FedEx - and anyone else involved.

FedEx likes to wash it's hands after dishing off tasks to outsource. It's a tough decision to.play nasty but sometimes they need to.be shown how ridiculous it's become dealing with the vendors.

Weird. I know I’ve retired a ton of folks from Fedex but never had any issues. I’m retiring in May and will keep my eyes open as I process out but I have full faith in Fedex

I might be able to file a paper claim against the Cigna amount since it shows a balance. I would rather have it all in one place though.

Carol Cobb7/9/2019
I’m filling out my Cobra reimbursement on the YSA website for first time today. Can someone tell me what I put for “Premium”. Do I put “Other”. This is for the VBO HRA (not RHPA). There is no option to choose “Cobra” under premium type. Thanks! I held on phone forever this afternoon and could not get to a person for help.

Laverne Deanes I was told today ... if you set up for automatic reimbursement, it will come out of your Retiree money acct and NOT the vbo acct???

Daline Doyle, yes that did happen. Supposedly it's fixed now.

Laverne Deanes I set my Jul payment up for auto reimbursement and it came out of the Retiree acct. I am going to call and get it corrected. I don’t think you can use auto reimbursement for cobra

Laverne Deanes they took my jul cobra out of the retirement acct on 7.11 so it is not fixed yet. They broke their rule of paying cobra out of the retirement account

I put Premium, and that worked for me.
Carol Cobb7/9/2019
Carol Cobb
Steven Caddel thanks. I put “Premium” for type of service. Then the next question is “provider”- Do you put “Cobra” there for provider? And then the next question is “Premium Type”. Did you put “Other”?
Betty Lee Pace7/9/2019
Betty Lee Pace
Carol Cobb I put Benedirect, the receipt said Benedirect/Wage Works.
Steven Caddel7/9/2019
Steven Caddel
Carol I put
Type of Service - Premium
Provider -
BeneDirect Wage Works
Premium Type - COBRA
I hope this helps
Carol Cobb7/9/2019
Carol Cobb
Steven Caddel thanks. Yes, that helps a lot. Only problem now is there is no “Cobra” choice under Premium Type. There is only: Dental, IRMAS/Late Enrollment Penalties, Medicare Medical, Medicare Part B, Other, Pre-65 Dental, Pre-65 Medical, Pre-65 Prescription, Pre-65 Vision, Medicare Prescription, and Dental.
Betty Lee Pace7/9/2019
Betty Lee Pace
Carol Cobb We only have vision and dental, is there a choice of "other"?
Carol Cobb7/9/2019

Betty Lee Pace thanks. That helps I wasn’t sure what to put there either
Lol. But what is the type “Other”?

I have been putting Pre 65 Medical and it seems to work. I tried doing the auto reimbursement starting with July. I was reimbursed, but now it says that it was discontinued moving forward. Not sure what happened. I need to call in when I have a moment.

This whole process continues to get more and more ridiculous. I just called YSA to find out why they discontinued my premium auto reimbursement. Turns out that auto reimbursement can only be used for retirement spending account and not on the VBO account. How much harder can they make the process? I can't use the debit card because WageWorks can't take it, so I have to pay for Cobra out of pocket, and then get reimbursed. I can't setup auto reimbursement for the VBO account, because it is only for the retirement account. And by the way, they also told me that Cobra cannot be paid for out of the retirement account either. I would like to speak to a FedEx employee about all of this. Does anyone have a contact that might be able to help?
Steven Caddel7/9/2019
Steven Caddel
Allen Bell wow, this is a wrangle. Thanks for the info about auto pay and the VBO/Retirement Account. So I do know that the Retirement account cannot be used for COBRA.
Karen Lynn Keywood7/11/2019

Allen Bell I set up my auto reimbursement yesterday for my cobra payment so hate to hear that won’t work.

I was told the same thing....it does NOT cover cobra insurance.
Andy Collie7/15/2019

I was just told the same thing when I called about the premium auto reimbursement. It can only be used with the retirement spending account (Not VBO account) and you can't use the retirement spending account with COBRA. So essentially, you can't setup auto reimbursement for COBRA premiums.
